Basketball reference now tracks ref stats. https://www.sports-reference.com/bl...eferee-now-available-on-basketball-reference/ Spoiler - we're not even in the top 10 teams that get crapped on by Scott Foster.
So I started going down the list for veteran refs that I recognize Brian Forte - we have the 8th best win percentage with him as the ref. 57.4% win rate. Bill Kennedy - we are 5th best with 60.6% win rate. Tony Brothers - 12th best with 51.5% win rate. Ed Malloy - 6th best with 55.8% win rate Rodney Mott - 4th best with 61% win rate. Ken Mauer - 17th best with 48.1% win rate. James Capers - 22nd best with a 46.9% win rate. Scott Wall - 18th best with 48.3% win rate. Leon Wood - 11th best with 53.3% win rate. Bennie Adams - 3rd best with 60% win rate. So clearly we want Bennie Adams, Rodney Mott, Bill Kennedy, Brian Forte, or Tony Brown to ref us lol
Win percentage can be skewed by how good the teams were during the time periods. I think you need to look at the foul differential.
Though that can also be skewed by how good the defenses were. You'd expect worse defenses to foul more. Maybe if you looked at fouls relative to average fouls for each season.
Yeah, basically, it's complicated, and probably not worth thinking about too much since you can't actually control ref actions. Interesting data though.
I'm not smart enough to parse through the data that's available. I just thought it was funny to go through and look at winning% with certain refs.
