we’re buying a house in Hilo. Not a timeshare. But you can put it into this website to trade as a timeshare. You’re pretty well vetted before you can be part of it. Planning to trade a bit.

I remember years ago getting a Alaska Air card and one of their sign on bonuses was 1st class upgrades. 1st class on Alaska is very underwhelming.

    I would never buy one.

    Oh God no.

Buddy had one in Cabo and it was very cool, right next to the Me Hotel. Stayed there for free

It opens you to more airline and vacation options outside of United. Also with the sign up bonuses you would have even more points.

buying them on the secondary market ain’t bad. You guys buy ones on the secondary market for like $2-4k that might cost $40k to sign up with the actual company. It’s actually a decent investment. I’d never buy direct from the actual companies though.

I would never get one either but picking up weeks for cheap was nice. The only problem is if you stayed at an all inclusive you couldn't use it unless you paid an additional fee which was really high for cheap free food. We'd just cook in the room or go to restaurants.

Don't you still have a bunch of yearly fees?

I'm wary to go out of the country as the US is requiring a 72 hour negative test to get back into the US. If you test positive, you are stuck. I'm guessing they will lift that in a few months as more people are vaccinated and the numbers go down.

I'll probably do some domestic trips this year. Probably Portland, probably Dallas for some wedding prep. I'd like to hit up the Florida Keys if possible too. And if things are better international, I'd consider a quick winter trip to Europe, either London or Germany.

I price flights on Kayak, then book direct with the airlines. Hotels are the same.

Next year, I think I'll be going to the Philippines for a wedding in February, probably gonna roll the Honeymoon into that trip, either there or on the way back, maybe try to stop off somewhere. Dunno, its hard to plan things.

The Riu resorts in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen are offering onsite Covid testing and if you test positive you can stay up to an additional 10 days for free.

I checked with a few places and the deal is legit.

I'd honestly hate staying in a resort for that long. Dunno, just not my kinda thing. Maybe I can look into doing my bachelor party out there somewhere. Too complicated probably.

The one my wife has is $720/year, plus $120 when we book a trip. It’s for 7 nights per year. The last time we used it, it got us a room that would have been about $3,000 for the week.

Kayak sucks now that they got bought out.

They used to show flight option to Cuba via Canada but now they scan your IP addy and won't let you look. Won't even show you flights from Cancun to Cuba.

I know but it does save you if you do test positive. It's just an easy insurance policy. They do the antigen test so with the vaccine you should be fine.

I would think places like Costco's prices are relatively the same, whether or not there are "Deals" or not. I think some of the Travelzoo deals will have better deal. I used to have more bookmarked back in the days, but I think they are legit, they are just brokers for airlines/hotels or resorts. Just have to read the fine print.

When more places open up, I think deals will still pop up then. Places like the Philippines and Thailand that rely on foreign tourist dollars. I notice a lot of Boracay (Philippines) resorts are comping influencers right now to start drumming up hype for their resorts.

I looked online, right now this is $65 a night lol. Planning to go here for sure if we can go to the Philippines in Feb 2022.
