Whats the best way to clean like a bathroom floor? Mops seem gross. I've been using those little swiffers with the disposible sheets, but even then, you're just pushing the dirt. I was wondering if a steam mop is worth it, or something like a bissell that shoots water and sucks it up?

Seriously....just use bleach and hot water...mop it ...if you want it really clean add a little vinegar to the bleach

I’m the “floor guy” in our house and I am very OCD about it. The main floor is a good quality Pergo and the bathrooms throughout are tile. The first thing I do is vacuum, then I run a dry Swiffer over the floor. Then, I use a mixture of warm water and white vinegar. After it dries, I dry Swiffer again and then I scrub the floor with a wet Swiffer. Most times I run a dry Swiffer over it again after it dried again. It’s a process but the floors are absolutely sparkling when I’m done. Good old fashioned elbow grease works far better than the fancy steam mops, etc, etc. And amongst other reasons, I use vinegar is that it will cut through any residue the wet Swiffer might leave behind over time......

I can tell you what the army uses, mops and/or sponges or hand boars bristle brushes with some sort of cleaner suited for the task. I don't clean floors any more but when I did I used Mr. Clean. For really filthy jobs use a scouring powder.

I got that little “tic” from my mother. She was a stay at home mom for whom housekeeping (and floors especially.....back in the pre “no wax” floor days) was “therapy”. All her frustrations got taken out on our floors.....with a positive end result for all concerned. Too, due to severe injuries suffered as a toddler, my dad spent a disproportionate amount of his childhood in Shriners Hospital For Children. So he grew up liking things clean and squared away (things that weren’t a high priority in the home of my beloved grandmother). So that was the agreement my folks had when they got married.....he worked his ass off outside the home to build a business and she worked her ass off inside the home to keep it clean. I’m not as fanatical as my mother but I certainly can appreciate a clean floor......and the therapy that cleaning it provides. Besides, I’m retired. It’s not like I have a whole lotta better things to do.....especially in a pandemic.

As you know I go back a long time. There are those with so called proof that I knew Benjamin Franklin. Anyhow, back in the 50s and beyond everyone waxed their floors.-

What about carpet cleaning? Is it worth to buy a carpet cleaner machine or rent or just get it done professionally?
