Weird that it would be Ant and not DJ (the reigning champion). According to an article I read from CBS sports there still is one spot open so maybe we'll have two participants.
Im just glad Im not a Mariners fan, the most mismanaged Pro Organization and the longest streak in MLB without a playoff appearance. You'd have to be a die hard Seattle fan to support that Org.
So you're saying Simons will begin to have trouble dunking after this event. Kind of like the Home Run derby? Lots of batters win the HR derby and complain it ruins their swing and they have to relearn how to hit the ball.
I never really followed the guy before he came to Portland, but in his short stint here I have never seen a guy blow as many spectacular dunks as I have Jones. I hope that stink doesn't rub off on Simons.
Yeah, I forgot about how bad he used to be at it. As soon as you mentioned it, though, I had flashbacks. Man was that annoying, because the older he got the more he seemed to drift away from contact. He seemed to really let the refs and the blown dunks take him out of playing physical in the post.
It's a really brutal existence. I've told this story here before, but, as a child (4 brothers) we were all "gifted" a baseball team at birth. Oldest brother got the Cubs, next got the Red Sox, I got the Mariners, next got the Marlins, youngest got the Rangers. All have won a World Series in their lifetime with the acception of the Mariners and the Rangers, but at least Texas GOT to one. I'm die hard and have more M's hats than I can count, but God damn it's been a tough run these past 32 years. At least I was able to enjoy prime Griffey.
Todays stars are weak and afraid of breaking a nail. The dunk contest was never better when the true stars were in it. Jordan, Dominique, Carter, etc.
Unfortunately the dunk contest should be named....the guy who made one contest. It's been a brickfest for a long time...if Ant can stick his dunks first try...he could win. Will Barton sure couldn't when he was a Blazer
