    It's playoffs that counts.

his career PER in the playoffs is 15.8. Last year it was below 15. That’s pretty average, maybe slightly above. Not really an all star.

There's no wrong answer because that's an impossible question not knowing what that "roster turnover" is.

I'll put it this way. This roster is capable of winning playoff series with bad coaching. It's already happened several times, IMO. If we lose in the playoffs but I feel like the coach had good game plans and adjustments throughout the series then I will for sure question the makeup of the roster.

Hell, Olshey could just use the open roster spot we have to sign literally any player available for the vet min at this point and not go into the luxury tax. The fact that he hasn't got us help in the middle is inexcusable. Pretty good isn't enough. Olshey hasn't put us in a position that justifies his tenure. Whether you think that means firing Stotts sooner or not showing stubborn and unprofessional loyalties to players, he hasn't done an acceptable job. The fact is that we have a guy that is arguably the best player in the league when both game and leadership are taken into consideration and Olshey has got some talent around him but either the wrong talent or coaching. Both fall at Olshey's feet.

If you think the Blazers have taken full advantage of our time with Dame then Olshey has done a good job. If you don't, ten years is too long to wait. The good news is that CJ and Nurk should be ready and integrated by the playoffs so if we don't go on a serious run, Olshey should be gone. He might not be because Jody isn't trying to rock the boat and Olshey is a conman but he should be.

CJ isn't that great in the playoffs and every team we face has the strategy to sell out on Dame and see if CJ can beat them in a four on five situation. I think an all star would slay teams that did that to the point that teams would stop doing it.

He's obviously waiting for the buyout market, so I'll reserve judgment on that until I see if waiting resulted in a better player or now.

To be fair though, until he trades CJ like you've wanted for 5 years, you're not gonna give him the benefit of the doubt.

Two word... ten day. It's inexcusable.

You aren't exactly right, until CJ proves me wrong and shows that he complements Dame offensively and can be a functional defensive back court with Dame, you're right I won't give the guy who said that CJ was untouchable the benefit of the doubt.

Agreed there is no wrong answer. My hypothetical allowes you to base your assuptions off what you would consider normal/expected roster turnover, FA signings, and injuries given our current situation.

I'm trying to figure out how different of an outcome you would expect next year with a new coach.

I'll take it a step further. If teams thought CJ was a legit all-star, they wouldn't sell out on Dame the way they do. That's the entire reason we need an actual 2nd all-star, that isn't short!

I kinda wonder if teams figure CJ is going to get his but for the most part he's not going to completely burn you. Dame on the other hand can go off for 50 if you ignore him or single cover him. CJ is historically so streaky that teams can gamble that he won't completely punish them if they single cover him. I kind of also wonder if they figure doubling is a waste of time because CJ is extremely difficult to guard when he's in the groove.

He also doesn't make the right pass when Dame's on the floor. It's like he feels that when he gets the ball when playing with Dame he has to take the chance to get a shot up, like he's starved for shots. I know that wasn't the case at the beginning of this season but historically speaking.

CJ and Melo have almost identical mindsets on offense. They both know that they can pretty much get their shots off whenever they want, so it's like they don't stop to think if there might be a better option.

Yeah and on second thought, CJ's run at the beginning of the season was fool's gold. Dame was deferring to him so much that we weren't using our best option close to enough. That's why we haven't seen a significant enough drop off in performance since CJ's been out to justify his status on the team... even if he does play like he did early in the season.

What's sad about CJ is that he has the brains and the handle be a really good distributor. He could be a point guard if he really wanted to. You look at someone like Trent and his handles just aren't there. Same with Simons. I don't feel confident with either of them handling the ball. They're both MUCH better as spot up shooters. CJ could be amazing but he plays so selfish most of the time.

The only right answer is to fire stotts and olshey.

All other arguments are invalid and wrong.

What makes you think this upcoming postseason is going to be different form past postseasons?

it's really insane how overrated 'playoff-CJ' has become in the minds of some Blazer fans because of game 7 against the Nuggets 2 years ago. You're responding to a poster who is implicitly admitting that 'regular-season-CJ' is well below all-star level, but somehow, he's all-star level in the playoffs. And he's not the only poster here who makes that claim

    CJ's career marks:

    PER: regular season 17.4....playoffs 15.8
    TS%: regular season .553....playoffs .532
    eFG%: regular season .524....playoffs .524
    3ptFG%: regular season .399....playoffs .392
Assist Rate: regular season 17.2....playoffs 13.2
    assist/turnover: regular season 1.85....playoffs 1.37
offensive rating: regular season 111....playoffs 106
defensive rating: regular season 112....playoffs 115
    winshares/48: regular season .107....playoffs .056
    BoxPM: regular season 1.1....playoffs 0.9
    +/- per 100 possessions: regular season +2.5....playoffs -4.9

in other words, somehow in some peoples minds CJ has become some mythical performer in the playoffs, yet, as shown above, he hasn't performed better in any of those categories that gauge impact and efficiency. Not in a single one; he's worse in all except for eFG%, where's he's just even

and that comes after, as well all know, teams double and trap Dame much more than the playoffs than they do in the regular season. CJ only sees single coverage while the opposing defense is completely selling out to stop Dame. CJ should be able to draft off Dame more in the playoffs than he does in the regular season...but he hasn't

playoff CJ is worse than regular season CJ, and regular season CJ is not an all-star

The problem is that Dame has looked so bad in some of the series because of the defensive schemes that other teams run against him that CJ has looked good by comparison.

Maybe CJs number drop (slightly) in the playoffs because every team in the playoffs is good.
