Of course you turned this into something personal and that was never the intention. Because i happen to feel you are exceptional when it comes to certain issues regarding the NBA. Also now you have turned the entire conversation into something completely different with this statement. That is not what the original post was about at all. Go back and read the post and see if it says anything about "Forcing the coach to do something". Hint- The original post was about the Business and the money they make off a game that a lot of people can't see or even relate to. It's more than just a business. It's an entire industry that touches you in ways you don't even consider. From the way cities are run to the way we deal with infrastructure to prospects of other types of industries benefitting from it. You should see some of the numbers that run across my desk daily. You would be shocked at what kind of revenue a team like the Blazers actually can bring to this city. It's mind boggling at times. Now lets take it to the simple statement. " Not privy to what the coach is forced to do". Lets say you have 500 million to a Billion dollar stake in something? Do you think you would be on the phone if things were being handled in a way you don't prefer? What if you were a city leader holding office and some decisions were being made that were having effect on the way you run the city or even if you were up for re-election and you needed some things to happen? Would you want everyone watching to know what was being said and done? Simple. The answer is No.
I think it's pretty clear Olshey is telling Stotts he wants us to play in a conservative drop coverage.
He's never had success as a head coach though. One conference finals in 9 years. A what... 34% win percentage in the playoffs if I remember correctly. Hell... not even a conference Finals game won. At all. Hes not a championship level coach. I can be proven wrong, but Dame is gonna have to carry him there like he has had to for everything else stotts has "earned". Bottom line. Stotts only has a job because of Dame. Stotts would be out of the league if it wasn't for him.
He's had success as a head coach..he's having success now....there are lots of players who disagree with you and Dame isn't the team as much as people want to frame it that way...Stotts as an assistant has coached Dirk to a ring and under Karl been to the finals with the Sonics....been to the conference finals two seasons ago with a one armed center and Dame with a strained abdomen....yeah....not sold. Terry Stotts will have a job the day after he ever gets fired here...which I don't think is happening ever. You really think Tyrone Lue and Frank Vogel are championship level coaches? Ok...then
I can apologize for that if that seems personal. I have absolutely no problem with that. I can respect being called out on it if you or Hoops feels that was a personal insult. Hoops is one of if not the best poster i know of when it come to Contracts and trades. I've said it many times. I didn't really feel that was an insult. He is the "Cats Meow" in my opinion on certain issues. Just not every issue.
Kanter with some strong comments on Dame, CJ, Stotts, and RoCo. https://www.radio.com/1080thefan/podcasts/dusty-and-will-20357
He only really talked about those 4. A little bit about Ant and Marcus Smart. To paraphrase his Stotts comments around the 7:20 mark (since this is the Stotts thread): He's played for 8 head coaches in 10 years (he has more insight than most of us - certainly me). Coach Terry and his staff are his favorite for sure. They always keep it real. They tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. The last bullet is nearly the polar opposite from what is suggested. If he were asked directly about the coaches or accountability, I would give it no real value, but this was more or less unprompted and could have just as easily been left off.
Gonna take Devils advocate here. First- Kanter is well known to always say decent things about his current situation. It doesn't make it wrong but most will say he says that everywhere. Second- 8 coaches in 10 years also might not be considered a good thing. Third- Keeping it real and telling you what you need to hear isn't equating to wins in the playoffs, but i must admit the last time Kanter played here they did indeed win in the playoffs. I think i got that right? Feel free to add something i might have missed?
Not sure it would even grow legs here? Only 31% say he needs to go on the poll at the top. That leaves him almost 70% at top 20 or better and or hoping he improves. The Very Loud minority seem to be just that. A minority.
c'mon now...I've never advocated Portland trading Lillard which is SAS's big thing. And the notion that Dame/CJ won't ever be enough to contend is a pretty commonly held view around here; and the evidence is the last 5 years of Blazer basketball and Blazer playoffs
True, but the combination of the CJ and Stotts opinions just reminded me of you. From now on I'm going to read your posts in SAS voice just for kicks and giggles.
that's actually pretty funny but I want to point out I've never been a big advocate for firing Stotts. There are a couple dozen posters here who have pushed a lot harder for Stotts being gone than I have. I think 9 years is enough time for Stotts, but it's not the level of burning passion that I have for Olshey being fired
