I think Ron White's most famous saying applies here... Meyers has made about 70 million dollars playing basketball....money is not his driving force anymore I"m sure
Just a little perspective from a prominent Jewish athlete. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...s-leonard-miami-heat-center-anti-semitic-slur
Is it a racial slur or an ethnic slur? Also, can you be Jewish if you don't practice Judaism? These are important questions I need answers to.
Exactly this. He obviously knew not to use that word in a post game press conference or in other situations. He also used the word in a way that even if you didn't know the exact definition you know it's a bad word.
Is it really that hard to conceive that he knew that the word was intended to be insulting, but that he was unaware that it was an ethnic slur? I mean, intuitively I personally doubt that's the case; I'm just saying that the evidence of him not using it in post-game pressers doesn't really indicate otherwise.
Ethnic. And yes. As I understand it, most of Jewish (or Hebrew, or Israelite) ethnicity focus more on heritage than religious practice.
As a professional figure though even if I gave him the benefit of the doubt and believed he was unaware it was an ethnic slur, I still have a problem with "learning" a word and not ever questioning why it's bad to say or why it's an insult (which he obviously used in that way). You have kids. There's always fresh lingo. Nowadays it's "cap" or "bet" or in my day the word "tight" was something said commonly. However if I had never heard a word like the one Meyers used and it wasn't just a common word with a cool new meaning it is absolutely my responsibility to know what it is I'm saying when I use that word.
Do you need to believe in God to practice Judaism? I imagine there are plenty of Jewish atheists who eat kosher, observe Passover, and eschew tattoos (et al).
One thing is for certain. I learned some things from the whole issue. Made me look some things up and educate myself on some others. I'm counting that as some positives.
I've met Meyers when he was in college, and he was a douche. It surprises me not one bit that he has never grown up.
i mean.. just look at that white blonde hair..... i see lots of people with that hair. They just happen to be mostly 13-14 year olds...
