I was too old when his second book came out. I never read any more of his horrible anti-animal tripe. I didn't need to. I already hated elephants and Whos named Horton.

In the McCarthy Era, many leftist writers tried to write funny stuff, not daring to write what they wanted. This included Dr. Seuss. Good thing that erah is ovah and I don't have to act funny.

Look, you've got to use your hunting rifle and resist when they come to your house to burn those books and other Left leaning garbage. Second Amendment, baby.

Every time I see or hear cat in the hat I'm reminded of a horror movie where these two murderous young people, maybe late teens or early 20s, invade this upper middle class home and take the father, mother and two preteen children hostage. They play this game called cat in a sack where they take the household cat, place it in a sack and tie the sack around the head of one of the children. All the kids are murdered in gruesome ways leaving only the mother alive. The house is on a lake. They put a sack over the mother's head, tie her feet and then tie her hands behind her back, attach a weight to her legs, take a boat for a ride to the middle of the lake and dump the mother overboard. Anytime I hear cat in the anything I cringe. That's one of the reasons I will never watch another horror movie.

Jesus Lanny how did you get from there to...there

I do not watch horror movies and won’t be watching that one. I always tell people if I wanted to be scared I’d watch the news.

If you ever get a chance to visit the Dr Suess collection at the Gaisel library in UCSD - do it. He was certainly pretty progressive (at least economically) for the time. I think that like many things from the past - things that make us cringe now were common at the time - so the publisher's self audit is to be commended here. I still say that Dr. Suess was a national treasure even if some of his work has not stood the test of time.

It was a long time ago but it did make me quit watching that kind of crap. In fact, I haven't and won't ever again watch any kind of horror movie. My wife laughs and says they're silly and she considers them, including monster movies, which I still like, pure Hollywood. She doesn't watch either genre. I don't understand how even teenagers can sit through a horror movie.
I once watched the Grudge in a movie theater. Had my fingers over my eyes during all the scary parts. My wife watched the same movie, along with a girlfriend of hers and her husband, the girlfriend was scared shitless, but my wife yawned through the whole thing.

Yes, we don’t like to be reminded that we fail at learning from our past.

I'm going to offer aa different viewpoint. Since the author passed away, his inheritors may have instigated the cancel culture to fetch more money for the collection as the books are not public anymore. You'll now have to get Horton on the black market. I'll bet other countries will make a profit on this while our candy ass leftists tear this away from the American public.

The first Alien movie made me cringe. Of course, those were the days when a movie theater was the place to be!
