Right now to me this looks like The Blazers would be trying to get more people to watch. The knock most recently has been if you live outside the metro area it's very difficult to watch the Blazers. I know this because i worked on the road quite a bit. places like Albany, Eugene, Coos Bay, Bend, Hermiston, Pendleton, The Dalles were all places you had to find a way to watch.
This might cure that because root is available on pretty much all providers.

I will do the "Wait and See" approach here. I know it's been bad to this point. Cannot get much worse. Comcast is crazy expensive and their streaming doesn't help much. Th current live streaming feeds all seem choppy at times and even out right bad at others.

Given their content and the Vulcan's history with guys like Ropp, I'm fairly sure this would be their absolute last choice. And I'm not saying that as a knock on the youtube show.

 

Maybe by next season YouTubeTV will add Root sports

 

I thought it was super lame back in the day, but honestly I wish the Blazers would just offer their own online stream. I'm shelling out for Youtube right now so I would prefer to just give them $10 a month or whatever and not have to worry about it.

 

That might be the plan. Kind of seems like they could do that.

 

No tv for me....I dumped my league pass this season. Radio.is my season...watch tnt games when I can and watch the whole game a couple days later on youtube i it's a good enough game and in the past I'd go down to a sports bar and have a meal and ice tea and watch their Blazer feed....covid has killed that off for now. I've asked the Blazers to stream from their homepage for many, many years...never understood why that wasn't an option but they divert fans to NBA.com pretty much. My old client had Comcast and Root when I worked at his house, I'd get to watch games with him....he's a Blazer and Mariner and Duck fan....saw more of the Mariners and Ducks than I would on my own but I did get to see a lot of free Blazer games.

 

I think if you only listen to radio, you really have no idea why some of us are so angry about certain things. It doesn't give you the same picture of what's happening.

 

I watch the games after the fact this season unless I find a stream....it's the same game.I've seen a few this year live......I grew up when radio was how I listened to all sports...baseball, boxing, etc....now you can stream games the next day or two for free online after it's been played....I also had league pass for years...too many blacked out games but that has nothing to do with my sports temperment....I saw the same anger at high school basketball games from crowds of soccer moms here....it's a different way to experience sports...not my thing...never has been. I also root for underdog teams most of my life...small market teams...never followed the big name franchises. Michel Holton is very, very good at putting you courtside via radio....Wheels was the best....you can see highlights throughout a game with game tracks and through the sports feeds..complete games are available without timeouts and all the free throws to watch.

 

I said if you only listen to the radio, which clearly you do not. So the rest doesn't apply.

 

I could say that the sports experience by radio is great....you can mow your lawn or cook dinner listening to the game...Stevie Wonder refers to "watching" nba games and he's blind....it's a valid experience and it applies if you don't need a screen to stare at during a game. I listened to a ton of baseball games driving a tractor in the fields.....I understand probably your generation thinks that's not following a game but actually, you don't miss that much...in other ways you don't have a visual distraction....like reading a book or seeing a movie about the book....same story. Purists will say you need to be in the arena for the real experience....that I'd agree with. Have you ever listened to a game on the radio without the tv?

 

So this is a rumor but I wouldn't overreact to it guys. The world of telecom is so rapidly evolving that ROOT may have told the Blazers that they would have a web subscription that's inexpensive. Maybe they do have a deal in the works with YouTube and Hulu. NBCSN is owned by Comcast because Comcast owns NBC/Universal. So if NBCSN made it onto streamers there is no reason to think ROOT can't.

Saying off of one very vague tweet without a source, that this is just another example of our team not caring about us is hasty to say the least. I'm not saying they're not going to fuck over a bunch of fans but let's wait until we know more to jump to that conclusion.

 

None of that has any bearing on what I said earlier. If someone doesn't watch the games, they most likely have no clue why some of us are so angry about the defense or the selfish iso driven offense. Listening to someone describe it on radio doesn't even remotely capture what your eyes can observe on their own.

And yes, in the 90s when there was only a handful of games on KGW and the rest on the Blazers own TV network, I mostly listened to the radio.

 

I've had to watch gamecast on ESPN to keep track of games before and can still be into the game as it happens. I'd choose audio/video first, just video second, just audio third and live updates like gamecast last but being able to follow the games in real time is compelling regardless.

 

Yeah, if you aren't able to watch the game and see what's happening on the floor you have no idea about how the offense is being executed. So anything outside of video is extremely limited. Seeing is believing?

 

You can see everything about the game not long after the game...if you listen to it you know the storyline....I haven't missed watching games replayed online much at all but I listen to them first live...I think you can have the best of both worlds and pinpoint things of interest...hell refs are in games and they sure don't see everything....if you're following the ball handler, you're probably visually not seeing what the corner wing is doing on offense etc....even broadcasters rewind plays to make sure they saw what they think they saw...if visuals gave everyone a complete picture...nobody would ever challenge a call

 

Also Wheels and Holton are very good at providing play by play commentary as to what the offense is doing....a good radio guy is your seeing eye dog

 

I don't understand why you keep going back to this. You watch the games. My statement no longer applies. I said if someone ONLY LISTENED TO THE GAMES they wouldn't have the whole picture.
