Apparently those don't count... only the ones that <insert my favorite team> have won are meaningful.
While baseball, basketball, and football are the most popular national professional sports, in college there are a big two of sports and everything after football and basketball are secondary. This is easily supported by tv contracts and ratings. You don't see college baseball on weekend national tv. Like track, like soccer, like baseball, these sports are on The Ocho. Even the Little League World Series gets a better TV slot than championship college baseball. While I'm proud of the national championships OSU got in baseball I would put them on par with the excellence the UofO track team has earned.
Pretty sure Track and Field is a big sport. I mean I know Oregon State doesn;t even have a team, but pretty hard to discredit Oregon's Track and Cross Country programs.
Likewise, I don't hate the Beavs, been to many of their games. I also think the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers franchises are on a totally different level than the Bobcats/Hornets or Magic, even though none of them have won a championship. I think the Heat had a better season last year than the Blazers, even though neither won a championship. It's not binary for me.
I agree, but using Cats criteria, he's only participation trophy worthy? I hold him much higher than that.
Pretty much. Great coach. Just like sloan with the jazz. Nobody cares that they lost to the bulls in the finals.
I guess we all have our own criteria. Mine is slightly more complex than yours; doesn't make it right or wrong.
If Beavers Football finished last in the Pac 12 for 10 years straight while winning the natty in baseball for 10 years straight if one of those sports had to be cut OSU would easily pick baseball. 1. Football 2. Basketball 3. Every other sport
Galen rupp kicked all of our asses in high school. Still rooted for him in the Olympics even though he was a duck. Root for mariota. Freddie jones. Dennis dixon. Luke ridnour. Kellen clemens. Was a massive joey harrington fan. Don't hate the school. Dislike the fans.
100%... Baseball goes in with all the "other sports". No way it's in the same category as Football and MBB.
They surely wouldn't cut baseball over every other sport. Baseball would be third. Completely fine with that.
I hate when Duck fans have this take about the Huskies, USC, etc. 99.9% of fan bases are totally chill, so why do we hate the entire "fan base" due to the vocal minority?
Baseball would be 3rd at OSU (because of their past success), but it's not a clear #3 for other schools. It's just another non-revenue sport.
