Unless we plan on trading CJ and this is the first step?

I don't put a lot of stock in a SG ability to rebound... so I"m not concerned there.

Powell can pass and create better than either Trent or Hood could.

There was talk on the twitterverse yesterday about Portland being in the market for a rental. A guy we use in the playoffs this year and discard in the summer. Maybe this is just that and nothing more.

Sweet. So we just let Trent go for nothing. That's fantastic.

In the month of March, Trents highest scoring game was 13 points. Coincidentally, that’s the same number as Powell’s least scored points in that month.

He averages 1.8 assists per game in 31 mins. Not really setting the world on fire.

We needed long defenders up front not more guards who all do the same thing.

    I don't understand this move.

Anfernee Simons gets a phone call:
    "Good news and bad news"
    "What's the good news?"
"They're trading two of the shooting guards that have squeezed you out of the lineup!"
    "What's the bad news?"

This is a total Neil move. Completely misunderstanding what's wrong with the team and flat out refusing to make the changes that need to be made.

Trent Jr could have been with Dame for long time. But he declined 4 year deal. So we had to get rid of him

I think it's a good move. Trent was struggling after he was scouted and Hood obviously is another year away from getting back if he ever does.
    More cap space.
They made made a decent move that allows another move that can help the team.

But we didn't get MORE guards, we just upgraded one. If we kept Trent, I get it, but we simply swapped him out for a better player. We have an open spot which I assume is saved for the buyout market.
I wanted Gordon, but so many in here said they wouldn't do little and a 1st, and I imagine it would have taken at least that. Plus the $$ issues of us having to stack guys to match, and also having to fill roster spots.

We he got something for Trent in the time being I suppose. I would have much rather had Lauri or Gordon if they were available. I wonder if Neil balked when asked for more pieces.

Pros: I wasn't a huge Trent fan - he's sucked a lot since that one Bubble explosion, and Hood looked flat out abysmal for most of this season. Plus, Powell is genuinely a good player.
Cons: maybe Powell was a good player in Toronto. This hasn't filled any roster holes and we actually get shorter. And Powell CANNOT play backup PG (which is something Hood was doing).

Overall, I think this trade would look better if we weren't looking covetously at Denver's trade for Gordon. But then again, it could be another Afflalo trade. And Hood was starting to round into form, and we know he can deliver in the playoffs.

Trent's struggles were weird. I don't think it was scouting. Dude was bricking wide open threes. Those were shots he was hitting earlier in the season. I think he knew he was gonna get traded.

I choose to trust that Neil and Terry know what this team needs better than message board nerds. And also that filling those needs are based on what's available and taking into account what we have/want to give up.

We had all of the control. He was a restricted free agent. We chose what we have with CJ over Trent's potential.

Sure, I suppose that makes sense. But what does Powell give us that we didn't have before?

I don't think Trent's potential is all that. He's a chucker whose defense is really overstated. He has more blinders on than Melo.

Really? What have they done to earn that trust? We have one of the best players in the league and we're consistently mediocre. What other team would have a player of Dame's caliber and not consistently try to build a contender around him?

You trust two guys who have averaged a first round loss over the last nine years but still somehow have a job? Why?
