If it's step #1 in a bigger plan, I love it.

Depends on what happens after the season, if he walks with no return, not a fan. At least with Trent we had a little leverage with him being a RFA.

So you sayin, that Stotts can work from home office now? He can put Powell on SF, let them play and go home. Great.

Yeah but that was CJ, Curry, Trent, and Crabbe. This is Powell.

    LOL...great...another person going one-on-one

2/3's of his shots are assisted by the way, and 77% of his shots were assisted last season. And, for comparison, 68% of Trent's shots were assisted this year. In the 'get-your-own-shot' area, there's no real difference between Trent and Powell except that Powell has a much higher FT rate

the assertion I was replying to was that a 44% three point shooter was going to make it harder to double Dame. Portland has had 4 different shooters of that caliber over the last 4 seasons and teams have doubled Dame constantly

but I guess somehow, Powell has magic anti-double beans in his pockets

Take a look at what Jordan Clarkston does for Utah, instant O and a SMALL guard that can handle the ball and go to the hoop besides shoot.
Everyone has been pickering about our guards defense, now we got one that can play defense and some.
    Knicks and Lakers still emerging....

Trent doesnt have a 6'11" reach. The man will to come in and prove himself. Ive been tired of Roc & DJ just standing around mostly looking for threes, this guy could be our Clarkston?

that's a great comparison. Clarkson has been crucial for Utah's success this season.

He had the opportunity because TOR was crap, hurt by injuries and covid, and so he made the most of the opportunity. But SF is not a place you want him in larger stretches if you want to be a contender.

Then again, in Portland, that doesn't seem to matter to some.

Jordan Clarkson has an assisted FG rate under 40%; Powell's rate is over 66%. So they have different games going.

I've said, at least three times, I think Powell is an upgrade over Trent. But I'm seeing people here, in their enthusiasm, picturing Powell doing thing I'm not sure he is capable of. Powell has also been posting these numbers having played 75% of the time as a starter. It might be different for him if he's playing 2nd unit with Melo & Kanter

I view it as he was all Neil could get for Trent. In no way do I see Portland having the money to resign him just like with Trent. I see him as a total rental to be signed by a team with funds in the summer. Let's say he does a great job, how is Neil gonna keep him? It allows Neil to say "I got a defender" knowing full well he can't keep him if he does well. Trent was restricted so the chances were better to keep him.

For some reason I just don't think Trent was ever Terry's guy. Trent is not a Mr. Goodbar like Dame and CJ et al, IMHO. Terry likes his Mr. Goodbars. I hope he does well but as the saying goes, "it's a rennell".

Good points except Powell isn’t one dimensional, he scores from all three levels, so he won’t be sitting in a corner like the other guys. Lineup of Dame, CJ, Powell, Carmelo, Nurk is nice offensive group and allows us to not Rely so heavily on Dame

I was Curry fan really thought we were better team with him in the game

It took the Blazers 40 games to figure out NBA Dunk Champ DJJ could seriously throw down running the baseline. Hopefully, the ramp up time is a little faster with Powell.

As long as Terry is coaching we won’t win anything that matters. I really hope Powell goes apeshit and it forces Neil to trade CJ.

It's a "meh" from me. Powell has only played 19+ minutes a game the last two years, and he's not even a full-time starter on a rather poor Raptors team. He's a good shooter, but that's about it.

If it gets Little on the floor more, then it's a good deal since Powell is probably as good as or better than Trent, although I'm not convinced it's a difference-maker on this team.

Wait, why is this used as a negative? He's playing the best ball of career in those last two years, that's why he's playing more. Looks like they expanded his role and he responded. He's been basically at 60% TS on solid USG in the last 3 years. Guys like that are not easy to find.
