You know, there are players, that make everybody around better. We know that. And there are people, that make people in the team work. Pat Riley is that man. If you going to his team, you know there will be no mama's sandwiches if you don't work for them. I think it is just going down from him and at this point he don't even have to say much. In contrary, Stotts keeps this team happy. It is going down from not keeping his stars accountable. It is going down from there. Jackson kept Kobe first and players knew, that if he can hold Kobe, he can hold them too. My point is, maybe you should start to write something, that actually makes sense, instead being homer just for the sake of it. Kanter said something? Ok. We know what quote is bollocks, you know that, so why you posting crap?
I've got you calling me a homer for quoting Kanter and other people upset I don't think this team should each and every game. Tough to please everyone around here. I didn't say one negative word about Riley, Jackson, etc. so I'm not sure what the issue is. If we could bring in those guys, I'd be all for it. I don't make the decisions when it comes to who our GM and coach is.
At least getting out of the 1st round and being competitive after that point ... the roster is legit.
Or how about not having one of the shittiest defenses ever when you got personnel upgrades and the #1 goal in the offseason was improving the defense?
This too. It's unbelievable how poor the defense is this year despite the roster upgrades in that area.
What do you mean by legit? Where do you rank our roster in terms of talent out West? What teams do you think are better?
The Lakers (healthy) are the only roster that is better. Denver and Clippers are comparable, but, when healthy, this Blazers roster is top 2-3 in the West.
Am callin you homer, bc you are one, bro This you said: "These catch phrases are meaningless." And if we check it, only meaningless phrase goes from Kanter, which came in your post, not the post you quoted. And, btw, I would put "slap you" in a green font, but I don't see this option on the screen
Respect your opinion. Please come to my rescue in other threads where I'm not enough of a homer for some. Kanter saying the Blazers coaching staff holds them accountable is meaningless (I agree), but other people saying it is meaningful (I disagree). I'd still prefer you slap Kanter than me, since he said the meaningless phrase, not me.
Go find a way to take a poll across the entire NBA fan base and ask them where Portland's roster ranks in the West. Or go tweet at NBA experts and ask them that question. I think you'll find a much different result. Blazer fans have thought we got a real shot a winning a title at least 7-8 seasons since I've been watching them. They've been wrong every time.
Take a look at what some non-Blazer fans thought to start the season: https://www.google.com/search?q=2020 nba preseason predictions&rlz=1CAOTWH_enUS796US796&oq=2020&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i59j0i433j69i61j69i60j69i61j69i65.905j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Spoiler: I was able to find one that had Portland 2nd in the West and he also had Stotts as COTY... and this writer happened to work in Portland and be friends with Dame. Probably just a coincidence though.
Um, I have a copyright on this shit, so you're going to have to speak to my lawyer now. Wait... hold on a minute. It turns out that you can't have a copyright on common sense. Carry on and great job.
I think you and I are on the same page. My expectations are not realistic. My expectation is that we should in a nine year period of time make the finals or have a new coach. Some might say, "Shouldn't the roster dictate what the expectations on the coach are?" My answer is simple. Of course in a normal situation that should be the case but Terry's tenure is unprecedented. However the fact is there is this one guy. This guy keeps saying that if the roster he put together is healthy it can beat anyone in the league. This guy acts like changing up similar role players is the same as the Lakers landing AD. If this guy believed in all of these rosters that he constantly touted as contenders were actually contenders, he should have fired the coach five or six years ago... but this guy didn't. So fire Olshey and then see what happens with Stotts after that (spoiler: I bet the next GM fires him).
I see Portland is right where they should be based on roster strength. Look at just the top duos: James-Davis, Booker-CP3, Jokic-Murray, Leonard-George, Gobert-Mitchell, then you get to Dame-? Portland doesn't have a second all nba type player. Dame-Nurk? If that's your power couple you are fucked. Dame-CJ? It's a great shooting duo but that is it. Purely shooting. Sure, Murray isn't having the type of year many thought he would but Jokic is better than Lillard, and by a sig. margin. When is the last time Jokic had a total shit game? Lillard has had a few where he didn't even show up, probably because of injury. But still...
Um, he had 14 points on 15 shots just the other night. I wouldn't put Joker-Murray ahead of Dame and a healthy CJ. And if you do, consider that the Nuggets, with little injury issues all year, are .5 games better than Portland. YES Portland hasn't won for shit against good teams, but that kind of implies the Nuggets have lost against sub .500 teams more. Portland actually as a much better record than they deserve, and it's 100% due to Damian. They're being poorly coached and out hustled on a game by game basis. The simple fact they're 10 games above .500 is almost a miracle. If you put together the top 10 teams in the league (record wise), Portland would be 9th (only ahead of the Mavs). And honestly, while they are close to the Clippers, Nuggets, Lakers and Bucks record wise, they are clearly and undeniably the worst of that bunch. By a far margin. And it has little to do with the "top duo" aspect, as much as it has to do with the incredibly predictable offense, the lack of utilizing players abilities and defense that would make 3rd graders blush. btw, what kind of year did people think Jamal would have?! He's averaging 21 points, shooting 48% from the floor and 41% from 3. All of them are significant improvements from his career averages.
