too early to say. a couple years of moves that didn'treally work out leading to a move that looksgoodonpaper, butwehavent'seenhowitworksoutonthecourt.
Hell of an explanation there, KC!

I'd say he did pretty good, but the devil is in the details. I want to see whether they go out and get a couple of good role players with their exceptions. If they could haul in a 3 solid vets (example: Brevin Knight, Brian Skinner, James Posey) they'd be bad ass.

If they don't do dick... then they're really dropping the ball. You don't go out of the way to get three stars and then not go out of the way to get some vets to plug in around them.

Is there an NBA GM, owner premitting that won't trade Ratliff, Jefferson, Green, Telfair and Gomes for Garnett?
-Petey

Of the big-3 sports leagues, the NBA is the hardest to rebuild in, unless you happen to hit on a big time player in the lottery or in free agency....Its a league of stars and if you dont have one, its hard to get one....to complicate that, if you dont have one, the best player on your team thinks he is one, and wants to be paid accordingly....hes finally been able to add an all star to help out Pierce, whos a borderline star in my opinion, and instead of sitting on that and taking his place in the 7th spot in the east, he made another move and added alegit super star, albeit an aging one, but a dominating big man that can go nuts agaisnt the Frankenstien monsters that most east teams roll out in the 4 and 5 spots....great big man + good perimeter player + good perimeter player + tomato canx2 = serious contenders in the east....Danny Ainge does get it

Don't see how that makes him good again, remember he was the one who put them there.

I discussed this with cpaw, so I'll just post what I said [in chat format]: cpawfan: with this trade, the celtics have almost made up Premier: for hiring Pitino Premier: nah Premier: ainge made up for the szczerbiak deal with this one Premier: with the ray allen trade Premier: he made up for the lafrentz deal Premier: the funny thing Premier: is that ainge took like five years Premier: when he could've done it in three...really Premier: he has ADD or something...he doesn't know what direction to go with...until he is forced to "win now" Premier: ainge didn't have a change of heart Premier: the fans would not have come to a single game if he didn't make a move Premier: the sad thing is Premier: all of his apologists will say that he's been planning this all along cpawfan: true Premier: the easy rebuttal is...why do the szczerbiak trade...why do the lafrentz trade? Premier: ainge is still far from competent Premier: NI actually made a good point Premier: his bone-headed moves resulted in good trade assets Premier: not because he planned it Premier: but because he's damn lucky
I won't say he's great, or even good by any means, but getting Allen and Garnett to be paired with Pierce, he's definitely redeemed somewhat of his reputation.
Yes,hedidgetluckythroughmanytrades,andyeshe'smademistakes,butthisisthebestteamwe'vehadinawhile.
WhileIstillbelieveclownsrunthisfranchise,atleastmostofthecircusisgone.

He tried something that never quite worked and now he's changed course and looks like he has something that will work phenominally.
He got a team that wasn't going to win and ditched that for potential. His greatest mistake was that the team never got bad enough to draft in the top seven, which is where youth movements need to begin. He could fix that by making a top seven draft team year in and year out, or trade youth for stars.
He took the more attractive option. If you grade on outcome, he's doing well. Look at what he started with and look at where is now. If you grade on the road he took, he's bad. The truth is somewhere in the middle. He's not an all-time great executive, but he certainly won't be cursed in Boston anymore.

hmm...do I want to touch this thread?
this is by FAR the best 3 players the Celtics have seen in about 20 years. This happened thanks to Danny Ainge. Yes, he has done a hell of a job.

Well, one can credit him with realising that he'd fucked the poodle and that it was time to change directions (keeping in mind that he attempted to trade Pierce prior to the 2005 draft). Thankfully two decent players were on the market when he changed direction.
