that the definition of futile. I think I'll look at what they did in drafts in that period:

    * 2009: took Tyreke Evans at #4 when Stephen Curry, Demar Derozan, and Jrue Holiday were available

    * 2010: took Demarcus Cousins at #5 when Paul George and Gordaon Hayward were available (they just couldn't leverage Cousins talent)

    * 2011: took Bismack Biyombo at #7 when Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, Nicola Vucevic', and Tobias Harris were available

    * 2012: took Thomas Robinson at #5 when Damian Lillard and Andre Drummond were available

    * 2013: took Ben McLemore at #7 when CJ McCollum, Steven Adams, and Giannis were available

    * 2014: took Nic Staskas at #8 when Zach LaVine, TJ Warren, Jusuf Nurkic, Gary Harris, Clint Capela, and Joe Harris were available

    * 2015: took Willy Cauley-Stein at #6 when Myles Turner, Devin Booker, Kelly Oubre, Terry Rozier & Montrezl Harrel were available

    * 2016: took Marquese Chriss at #8 when Domantas Sabonis, Taurean Prince, Caris Levert, Pascal Siakam, & Malcolm Brogdon were available

    * 2017: took De'Aaron Fox at #5 when Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo, & John Collins were available (can't criticize that choice because Fox is a great young player; Portland had the same opporunity and took Zach...:()

    * 2018: took Mavin Bagley at #2 when Luca Doncic, Trae Young, and jaren Jackson were available (yikes!)

I'm not even a Kings fan and that's a depressing record

Utterly awful draft record but, to be completely fair, Chriss was a selection for the Suns in a draft night trade. The picks Sacramento got were Bogdan Bogdanović, Georgios Papagiannis and (the great) Skal Labissière. A bit better, but still not what you would call a draft triumph.

So was Gary. Just cause we had control of his rights doesn't negate his right to sign somewhere else. He's already on record as to feeling unappreciated here.

It's called being smart and having common sense.

Well.....history can repeat. As I recall, the 1976/1977 season was being called a foregone conclusion before it even started. Philadelphia put together the “best team money could buy” and no other team even looked close, including the Lakers. Some of us still remember how that all turned out........

    Hello darkness, my old friend
We could have but we shouldn't have, if he got a large offer somewhere else. Trent isn't worth a lot of money. Powell is. So, with Trent we had the possibilities of: overpay for mediocrity or let him go. With Powell we have the possibilities of: re-sign a very good player or have him walk away.

I prefer our new possibilities to our old ones.

Yep. Boston beating them into submission. Denver has given up on defense.

That's the kind of stuff that will turn a season around. Either for the better or worse. It's up to them to pick the pieces back up.

We traded him, so we weren't gonna match him.

    See how that works?
