Jim Moran showed more accountability in his minute long halftime interview the other day than Stotts has all year. Just end it already and let one of the assistants finish out the year. STOTTS HAS LOST THE TEAM.
Im telling ya, that guy is going to be good get from someone someday. Did you see how he coached that summer league team a few years ago, he was enthusiastic, direct and coached well, even though it was a summer league game touney I was impressed how players responded to him. Thats two games in a row he was interviewed at half and you could tell he was pissed.
yeah, I wish we’d get a look at him now as head man, because I doubt he’d be seriously considered in the offseason.
“Jody Allen is going to sell this team,” writes Jaynes. “I’m not sure when, because it probably has to await the untangling of all of Paul Allen’s assets….The people operating this franchise have always assured everyone that it isn’t for sale, but I think that’s what you have to say in order to keep potential free agents, advertisers, sponsors and even fans comfortable with their investment in the team….Nobody knew Paul Allen was buying the team until he sat down at his first news conference…I expect the same thing to happen in the next year or two — only Jody Allen isn’t likely to be there…But she’s going to sell. And you can take that to the bank.”
Regardless of this winning streak, this team needs a new coach. There's no way this roster should be competing for a play-in spot.
I disagree. I think this roster is heavily overrated by some on this forum. Not to suggest Stotts is a good coach, but considering the poor fit of the parts, I don't think this is a particularly good roster.
I agree that this team is far worse than the sum of it's parts and it's not just because of Stotts' coaching IMO. Like you said our personnel, especially Dame and CJ, don't fit together. This is why I advocate that the team (Jody and the Vulcans) fire Neil, hire a new GM and give that GM a mandate to make the drastic changes that are needed to take a team from competing to make it in the playoffs to a team competing for a championship. To me that new GM would obviously fire Terry. They would obviously trade CJ and make other moves. We just have to wait and see. I will say again that if I'm wrong and Olshey is right, we should make our best run yet and at least win one game in the WCF. IMO that's the only way that either of Stotts and Olshey should return.
just winning 1 game preserves both their jobs? let's see, at that rate Portland would make the finals in 2027, when Dame is 36. Then they'd win it all when Dame is on Medicare
I wouldn't worry about it because there's no way we're making it there but yeah, for me if we show that we're progressing in the right direction then they should both stay on. A win in the WCF is further than they've taken us... I think that would be enough.
To those who said our 5 game losing streak was a sign Stotts has lost a team, I'm assuming you also feel this 4 game road win streak (all double digit wins) means the players are fighting for Stotts? <insert mental gymnastics below>
Yeah, I think that the players have buttoned up some shit that should have been fixed a long time ago. So here's some really easy logic (no gymnastics necessary). The fact that the team was basically not trying at all and Stotts was making excuses for them was completely unacceptable. The players now playing with focus since "enough is enough" means that they are showing some resilience. That might be because Stotts is now actually doing his job or it might just be something the players are making happen by holding each other accountable. The only thing that matters to me at this point is the end result. If this team with Stotts as the head coach makes it to the WCF and wins at least one game, they are making progress and both Stotts and Olshey should probably stay. If we go out in either the first or second round... or get swept out of the conference finals, we need a new GM and a new head coach.
How can you judge the fit of the parts when it’s a known that Stotts can’t integrate role players other than parking their ass in a corner and letting them shoot 3s. And he can’t coach defense to save his fucking ass Or hold people accountable. Or put players in position to succeed / play to their strengths. Stotts is an absolute fucking dingleberry of a coach
Spot on. I hope people don't get memory loss after a first round win. Our roster has an embarrassment of riches, there's no way this team should have been under performing so much in the playoffs. The coach has got to go. The players put it upon themselves to figure out. No thanks to the coach.
Of course they will. Already have people saying Stotts saved his job with this winning streak. A) Wait until the playoffs roll around and see how that goes. And b) I’ve seen this story before. Blazers start playing well... bam swept lmao
That was a bit of gymnastics, but I appreciate the effort! In summary: They may have tuned Stotts out two weeks ago, or maybe they didn't. Now they may be playing for Stotts' job, or not. Nobody knows, we just tell stories based on what we want the truth to be.
