https://deadline.com/2021/04/2021-0scars-tv-ratings-academy-awards-low-abc-disney-1234744135/ Oscars viewership through the years 2014: 43.7 million 2015: 37.3 million 2016: 34.4 million 2017: 32.9 million 2018: 26.5 million 2019: 29.6 million 2020: 23.6 million 2021: 9.8 million I guess people don't like out of touch, elitist celebrities virtue signaling with their woke politics on live TV? If only we could have predicted this.
They shouldn't have swept the homeless people around Union Station under the rug. More people would have watched to see if some shit went down.
Or maybe fewer people watched because hardly anyone watched the movies that were up for awards this year.
The Oscars have become entirely about politics and not at all about entertainment. I stopped watching a few years ago.
https://www.outkick.com/oscars-ratings-tank/ Keep in mind that the ratings have already been plummeting for years.
Yes but even if there were no political talk during last night's awards acceptance I still think the awards were going to be very low ratings because so few people watched the movies that were nominated. Normally I'll watch some of the Oscars but this year the only person/award I had any interest in was Frances McDormand because I'm a huge Coen Brothers fan and have loved her past work. This year I didn't watch because I hadn't seen any of the movies.
Didn’t watch it but found it noteworthy and somewhat ironic that the LA city government broke up an existing homeless camp outside Union Station downtown LA solely so wealthy elites and celebrities could witness Best Picture be given to ... a movie about the struggles of homelessness?
Nah, it was due to Jada's called boycott of the event. https://www.cinemablend.com/new/How...-Pinkett-Smith-Oscar-Boycott-Call-107427.html
Ratings on things dropping always gets thrown as some gotcha on liberals as if it somehow shows their ideas and ideals are wrong.
Yep. The only thing ratings show is that people have better things to do with their time at that moment. It doesn't reflect how people feel about stuff politically, or socially. It just means that in todays world, where movies aren't as important to people and we're dealing with a pandemic, no one gives two rips about awards shows. I've never understood why anyone gives a shit about these kinds of shows in the first place.
It's sad that so many GOPers believe this is a better indication of who won the election than, well, the election.
I just got tired of these (mostly liberal) actors espousing their political views within this format.
People still actually watch that shameless display of ego stroking and mutual masturbation??? All for a gilt plated doorstop?? The collective IQ of this country continues to plummet……..
Exactly. I don't begrudge those who enjoy it, much like I don't begrudge those who like MMA stuff, but it's not a surprise to me when it's raining are getting worse.
