Brian Wheeler has started a podcast that I just discovered and if you miss Wheels and want to hear some really in depth interviews about the team he is the best.....his first episode was with Stotts....he posts them Mon Wed and Fri every week....last interview was Dan Sheldon and next one is with Quick.....
The pod is on BLEAV network....Blazers with Brian Wheeler....really stoked to have my favorite voice of the Blazers to check in with these days. Go Blazers!

It's weird how a guy who was basically fired by the team, still is so connected to the team, etc. I know he grew to be a fan of the area, etc, but if I was in his shoes I'd be like "fuck that noise, I'm Brian Wheeler, not Blazer Wheels", and I'd be talking about the NBA more than the team that just fired him.

Of course, if he was told to get his shit together and they'd potentially re-hire him, I don't know.

(pipe dream moment: Travis can do TV and Wheels can return to the radio. A mop bucket would be better on TV than Jordan Kent)

Did you mean Dan Sheldon and not Dan Patrick?

...I thought he left due to constant health issues :dunno: glad he's feeling better these days and is getting some more airtime!

I think there was something more to it than that.

Wheels like Mike Rice has lost some of his vocal power....he can't travel with a team...my understanding is it was amicable....they let him call part of his last season from home but that wouldn't work long term...I hope he interviews Rice....his love of the Blazers is genuine and he had a 21 year run....his 3rd interview is with Kevin Calabro ...haven't heard that one yet. I'm just glad he's on the air. I'm still friends with a musician who fired me from his band in the 70s....I was replaced by a woman who played better guitar than me and sang better....we're all still friends...it's a business. He gives shout outs to all the current crew and seems to be friends with many in the organization. Rice is still a Blazers fan as well. I heard him interviewed last year from Florida....I've got zero sense that he's disgruntled or has baggage towards the team

I started this thread to promote his podcast...found it refreshing and not steeped in negative crap....enjoy if you like ...I'm going to and he sure seems to be enjoying it.

He wasn’t fired. He medically couldn’t do the job anymore

Thanks, do you know how his health is?
He's a great guy and missed.

He's lost some of his resonance in his voice....as I mentioned Rice had as well in the last interview I heard with him.....age catches up....what I like is that he is so loved by the people he talks with and it just shows lots of aloha. Something this forum could use a good dose of.

Wheels interviews and choices are filled with mutual respect....you probably won't enjoy them much

I just hate stotts.

Everyone else is fine.

Hence why I said what I said. I thought that was pretty clear....

If you’re physically unable to do your job anymore than you can’t really fault a team for moving on.

The last couple years he was hardly able to work

The podcast is perfect for Brian....he discussed in one interview how teams may want to leave the radio crew at home to broadcast like they are now with covid to cut costs but it changes the way you can call a game....some great insights from Brian....I've only heard 3 interviews....just happy to have him talking Blazers again....he provides a unique perspective

I appreciate the heads up, while I never liked Wheels on the Blazer broadcasts, I loved his old radio show, so this sounds right up my alley. Plus I've been looking for a new Blazers podcast to listen to since Joe Freeman stopped doing the RIP City report. Mike Richman does a decent job with the "Locked On" pods but he's a little dry as a solo show.

The Kevin Calabro interview is great...just finished it....covid scared him into retiring last year. He wasted no time going home and getting out of the public for good reasons....makes me appreciate the people who've risked the road to bring us hoops with such a high risk factor around it. Wheels voice sounded stronger in this interview so I hope he just had a cold in the first one.

I remember when I used to work graveyard many years ago and Jim Valvano’s (Jimmy V) brother hosted a national radio show I’d listen to on my way home from work. Wheels had a weekly segment where he’d call in and they’d BS and do sports trivia together. It was great.
