5 top takeaways from Biden’s American Families Plan (msn.com) Want two years community college free? Republicans wouldn't create this.
You’re trying way too hard here. I said I think Biden is going to get us into conflicts and you’re saying “NO HE DIDNT!”
That's not what that said at all. From the link you posted. https://beckernews.com/wapo-shuts-d...ase-for-biden-its-excuse-is-ridiculous-38798/
"The decision to discontinue the database comes after Mr. Kessler was widely panned for his extensive Friday fact-check of Republican Sen. Tim Scott’s recollections about his family’s cotton farming in South Carolina during the Jim Crow era." -WaPo
Yes, but he’s actually making a concrete effort to get there, rather than throwing promises around like nickels and then completely failing to even try to follow through……and I’d be thrilled if he’d just promise to educate the 40% of this country who are in dire need of it…..
You can't educate people who are willfully naive. There have never been SO many opportunities for people to learn and educate themselves. Much of that education is already free (or very inexpensive).
Nothing wrong with a young person investing in his Education. Mine did and a couple quit when they knew the money wasn't well spent and wanted to do something else.
I recently had some plumbing work done and got to talking to the plumber’s apprentice, asking him how hard it was to get into the apprenticeship program. I only asked because it used to be you had to know someone just to even get your foot in the door. The kid said that they can’t find people to fill the classes. No one is either interested in physical labor, or they think a four year degree will automatically bestow and mondo salary at them (for little actual work). After paying the plumbers bill, it is apparent to me that a lot of the younger generation have no clue how professional compensation dynamics are changing. That kid is making a great wage for his age…..without tens of thousands of dollars in tuition debt. And they can’t keep up with the work……
Very true...My oldest son never went to college got into an apprentice program to become a electrician (didnt cost him a dime) he's now a journeyman for on of the largest electrical contractors in town. He make very good money and works his butt off for it. I have 3 other kids that went to college and 1 is actually working in the field he majored in, the other two didnt really need the 4 year degree to work in the fields they are currently in.
It's a shame that our society has spent a few generations looking down on blue collar workers, and promoting the american dream of white collar work. When a lot of blue collar work and trades will be needed, a lot of the white collar work gets automated and replaced. We've spent generations telling kids to go to school, because it's the only way to a good job and good money, the money you need to buy all of the toys we advertise. And then we raise the price of the education to an absurd amount, and remove many of the jobs people could do from that education. I know quite a few friends who went to school, because it's what you were told to do, and got out, didn't know what the hell to do, and then worked to become a plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc.
I went to community college for two years before going to PSU. While in school there were full time students some in their 30,s and even older as thats all they wanted to do, was go to school.
I think going to school is great. And people older want to go back sometimes just to learn. Some want to be lifetime students, and that is totally ok. I just think it stinks when we kinda brainwash kids into thinking you graduate high school, the next step is 4 year university. Not even the much cheaper practical route of community college first for general ed. You want a good job, go to a good 4 year school. Take on massive debt. And then get a job as an insurance agent when you graduate, a job you don't need an education for anyways.
While I think Biden’s Family Plan is shot full of questionable pork, I am utterly thrilled he is trying to offer free community college. Talk about an under appreciated and underused educational opportunity. If nothing else, by attending a community college young people can find out if a college education is is actually for them without sinking into lifetime debt. The community college thing is decades overdue, and how anyone on God’s green earth can object to it is hard to fathom. It’s a rock solid investment in the future of America any way you look at it.
