I don't know. I am not a NBA GM. I have no idea who is available. I was just responding to the quick comment about " what about CJ" .
Beal plays on a garbage team and has Westbrook averaging a triple-double beside him. We’ve seen CJ when Dame is out and he averages almost 30ppg in those games. Put CJ on the ball and have him drive more and he gets to the FT line more often. CJ games with Dame out... https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/ho...er-when-damiam-lillard-was-out-with-game-logs
Very true. Under Stotts and Olshey got rid of half the roster that next summer. Added Whiteside, Gasol, Mario, Bazemore, Tolliver, Mario... yikes.
CJ is good but is only a “star” when stretching the definition. However, assume CJ is a star, what Portland needs is a complementary star rather than a cannibalistic star who style, strengths and weaknesses so completely overlap with Dame that is weakens both their games. I don’t necessarily believe we need to trade CJ for an all-star, just a strong complementary team player.
this is my issue with the trade CJ crowd. Rarely ever followed up with any specific/realistic ideas. I’m ok with trading him, but I’m not trading him just to trade him. And it shouldn’t be hard to identify a target btw, rosters aren’t that big and only so many guys make comparable money.
@Tince ....that may be your best post ever. As for the "who was available?", it seems like Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, etc have all been available in just the last couple of years. ....but then again, if you won't give up CJ or Ant, even for starters, it's tough to make a deal.
You might want to go back and read my original post. I never mentioned anything about trading CJ. I responded to the quick post. I pointed out CJ is not a star, a good player but not a star. You are the one who responded and mentioned anything about trading CJ> I just said the Blazers needed a second player who is top 5 at what ever position they played. I am not a GM, just like you are. I am not going to spend tons of time researching to see who makes the same salary as each blazers and figure out trades that are neve going to happen. I don't get paid nearly enough by the Blazers, where my salary is 0.00 by them top work out trades, plus I don't have numbers to any of the other GM's.
I don't think it's fair. They are playing away from home whole season. Players away from families. It's not simple to judge the Raptors just by results this season.
So you are saying CJ would average more points playing next to Westbrook compared to Dame? Or you saying CJ would average as many points as Beal on a garbage team because he would get more shots? CJ has the ball in his hands a lot as it and doesn't get to the line. He just went through a stretch of 4 games with 0 FT's. He is averaging as many shots per game as Beal now. Those stats you showed CJ averages 5 Ft's a game. So with 2.4 more FT's per game and .5 more shots per game CJ is going to average 8 more points a game? I don't see it. When it comes to SG I would list Harden, Beal, Lavine, Mitchell, Booker, Brown and George all ahead of CJ.
You never know who is available and how that teams values our players. Maybe we could have had Vucevic for Nurk+Simons who knows.
This year there was ONE all star that was drafted outside of the top 16. Since CJ was drafted, Portland has been in the top 16 twice. Once they traded up to get Collins, the other time they traded for Covington. The reality is Portland hasn’t been in the position to draft all stars because their record hasn’t been bad enough.
I said what I said. CJ could average 30ppg on a bad team. He almost does it when Dame is out and those are mid-season adjustments. No need to look further into it.
He averages 25.5 points in those games Dame is out so not sure how he is going to all of a sudden average 30.
Those that have families are living in Tampa with them, IIRC. Most are single young guys so that doesn’t really matter.
28ppg over his career when Dame is out. If you’re not going to read the facts I presented, please refrain from lying about things to me.
