I quit watching cartoons in the late 50s. I considered myself too old to watch Capt. Kangaroo or Heck Harper. I used to watch a local guy called Mr. Moon who wore a black outfit with a black cape and a globe of the moon for a head. I must have been around 6. I'll bet no one in here ever heard of Mr. Moon. How about Capt. Midnight, later Capt. Zero. He had a neat decoder ring.
Mr. Moon! One of my very earliest black and white TV memories. Whenever I ask my contemporaries if they remember Mr. Moon I always get a blank look. Good to know it wasn’t just a toddler acid trip…………
Do you realize that you qualify as an old geezer? You probably remember having a crush on Annette Funicello of the Mickey Mouse Club.
I was born in 1954. And the show ended in 1958 (make way for Mr. Duffy!!). So I’m surprised I actually remembered. My brothers and I usually got preempted by my teenage aunt and the boatload of teenage girls from the neighborhood (none of whose families yet owned a TV) so they could all watch American Bandstand and practice all the new steps. Why they couldn’t just appreciate Mr. Moon was beyond me. Anyway…….if you’re interested in some local history……. http://www.pdxhistory.com/html/mr_moon.html
What the heck…..for those who were just a tad bit too young for Mr. Moon…… http://www.pdxhistory.com/html/mr_duffy.html
Im 70 and dont remember him must of been focused on chicks & baseball at Okley Green. I remeber Duffy, Uncle Charlie, Heck Harper & Rusty though.
My little brother won a Deputy Dawg drawing contest put on by Rusty Nails when we were kids, so he, me and my other brother got to appear on the show. My brother won an M&M gun, a funny face popsicle maker and an assortment of various candy for his artistic efforts. Otherwise, the whole experience was surprisingly underwhelming. But Rusty Nails was an extremely nice (and patient) man.

You can believe it…or not: “I was watching the TV show, Mister Moon. At the end of the program, he took off his head and said, “There! That should hold those little bastards for another day!” I was shocked! I ran into the kitchen and told my mother that Mr. Moon called us “little bastards.” She acted like she didn’t believe me and told me not to swear. That was the last time I ever saw Mr. Moon.”"
For some reason I don't recall him. If it was an afternoon show I was always outside or involved with sports.
I remember watching it a few times, but didn't really like it. I had other, more important things to take care of, like tormenting my older sister.
Back then kids were very active and outside much more than they are now. Sat/Sun tunes or if stayed home is when Id watch kid shows, but it was for long.
