Lindgren extended for 3 years for $3M per - $9M total. Good deal I think. Also the first Eichel shoe dropped. I think he's getting dealt for sure this summer. Back on April 15th, GM Kevyn Adams provided an update on Jack Eichel. He said they saw some improvement with rehab but not enough to come back to play at that time. The decision to shut him down was made by the Sabres and Jack Eichel’s camp. They also stated Eichel was looking to avoid surgery by continuing to rehab his neck. The two sides were to meet again in May to review progress and determine if he surgery was required. Today, Eichel said he was upset with the way the Sabres handled it and is most definitely looking at surgery to get this fixed. “I’ve been a bit upset about the ways things have been handled since I’ve been hurt. There’s been a bit of a disconnect between myself and the organization,” he explained. Jack Eichel: “I’ve been a bit upset about the ways things have been handled since I’ve been hurt. There’s been a bit of a disconnect between myself and the organization. The most important thing now is to get healthy and be ready to play hockey next year, wherever that might be.” Jack Eichel on him and the Sabres: "I've got to do what's best for me and they've got to do what's best for them. ... There's a lot to process. ... I'm sure these conversations will be had and things will go from there." Eichel said he's frustrated and has "a lot of thinking to do" this offseason. "But for now, I'm here. I'm the captain of this hockey team." Avoids the question on whether he requested a trade. Jack Eichel on possible trade rumors "You guys have to write about something, don't you??" Let the games begin.
Not ideal, but in 2021, if we do our due diligence I trust in that. I still think he will be a Ranger unless the medical doesn't check out. And maybe this will lower the return a bit.
Agreed. If I had a choice between the two I would take Barkov also, assuming the return packages are similar. Even though he is a UFA after next season, I just don't know if Barkov is available though. I have to think the Panthers will go all out to re-sign him. That is a team on the upswing. If Barkov is not available, it becomes Eichel or some good to very good options available/potentially available. The Flames duo, Malkin, RNH, and there are always some unknown options that pop up. We'll have choices. My mindset is start with a stud focus (Eichel or Barkov), and then work your way down. If I couldn't get Eichel or Barkov I would be all over the Flames looking at Lindholm or Monahan.
The Rangers better have a bevy of experts checking Eichel out. Neck injuries have cut many a young career short. CD can't afford to make a big deal for a guy who may be damaged goods, would set the whole rebuild back.
