But Thorn probably will try to pull off a blockbuster himself at some point before February's trade deadline.

Essentially, Thorn is admitting that no one will take his low ball offers and that he is going to wait for some team to turn desperate.

Always good to hear after a team in your division captures one of the top big men in the game.

Does Rod have any incompetent ex-teammates who can just hand him over a superstar?

You go ahead and check the rosters of those teams and get back to us.

Then for your second assignment, list the players on the Nets that another team would want as much as Al Jefferson.

No teams are aggressive, nobody makes trades, nobody is trying to do anything but make money.
This trade only happened because Kevin McHale is a world class idiot and is buddies with Ainge.
McHale probably thought Al Jefferson owned a cleaners on the East Side before last year.

It's not like he is not trying. We've heard O'Neal and Odom (Which would ahve been awesome).

I hope that Thorn isn't expecting Magloire to go back to his all-star form because that ain't happening.

Sure Thorn is trying, but it is pretty obvious that trying to him means offering below market value to other teams. Thorn only makes trades where he thinks he has made a steal.

That's usully a prudent stance, but I think when the book on the Thorn era is written, his lack of urgency will be seen as his biggest weakness.

He's now wasted almost all of the tail end of Jason Kidd's prime trying to fit bargain square pegs into round holes.

He's hamstrung himself with good players that add up to an underwhelming whole.

That's poison for a GM. It's the worst case scenario, to be avoided at all costs.

We have no trade pieces and everyones got rediculous asking prices so it's not really suprising. Nobody wants to get shnooked, especially not by Thorn. I'm sure Rod's crossing his fingers that a desperate Big Cat is a cheap answer to our problems. In alot of ways we should be lucky we got him as much as that pains me to say. Jersey has always been a tough sell, it just sucks that by the time we hit Brooklyn it's probably gonna be too late.

Wouldn't Brooklyn be more attractive? Or were you referencing the impending end of Jason and VC's careers

The latter part. By the time we get a more desirable place to draw players to the tread will be worn on those tires for both those guys. Not to mention their contracts will be even that much more annoying to try and add players around while avoiding the luxury tax.

i don't mind that. perhaps the nets can get a better deal after the season starts and teams like the pacers and the lakers(maybe) suck, so we can rob them of their big men.

and possibly get rid of collins for a better big man..?

I could see us getting a shot at O'Neal under those circumstances if Diener has a solid year and Danny Granger goes down with a severe injury. I don't think we've got a shot with the Lakers. Assuming Odom is the target, I dont think we've got anything that they would trade him for (and a Kidd for Odom trade is not happening)

Uhh, really? We're in the worst case scenerio? Worse than the Knicks? Really?

But yeah, I agree. We've got too many highly paid players, and not enough bargains, who don't play well enough as a unit, and it's about to get worse next summer. The way this team is built, it has 2 more years at most, 1 more if they want to keep any financial flexability for the future.

Jerry West is pretty incompetent IMO. What has he really done in Grizzly land?

The only positive things I can think of is draft Rudy and trade for Miller.

A gut feeling, not my brain, tells me that we're going to be stuck in the bottom of the East playoff picture if we don't make a move for Jermaine O'Neal, because let's face it, Gasol isn't available, and Odom isn't going to solve this team's problems.

However, I really don't want to give up Krstic, Collins, and MWill for him.Maybe that's because I'm used to seeing Rod Thorn pull of these great deals like Marbury for Kidd, Griffin for RJ, Collins, and some other guy,orWrigley's gumfor Vince Carter.
