This was our alarm clock, they start ringing the bells for 8am mass at 7:30, lol. Our hotel is right across the court from this convent that was built in the 1600s. When we got her last night there was a light show displayed of the Mayan, Spanish, and Mexican history against the side of it. It was badass and a complete surprise. BONUS LIGHT SHOW! I have some video but jungle internet no like video.
Our hotel room! Beautifully restored. We have to padlock the door when we leave, lol. The door is 16 feet tall with giant antique latches on the inside.
Love that area; got engaged in Tulum when it was still a backwater in 1989. Cenotes rock. Have a blast! Stay safe.
Arrived at the Riu Palace Mexico in Playa Del Carmen last night. Beautiful resort and again, hardly anyone here. The Mexican government has set a limit of 30% occupancy at all the resorts. But all the Riu's in Mexico are offering free covid tests (The US is requiring everyone to have a covid test before entering the country) and if you test positive you can stay for free up to 10 days or until you test negative. Because of this guarantee, our resort lowered its occupancy to 25%. Which is really really nice. It's fully staffed but hardly anyone around. This has been the theme for the entire vacation. Hardly anyone. Especially in the stuff we have been doing. Sooooo.... pictures.
Valladolid! This is where we spent the first 2 nights. Hotel is in a building built in the 1600s. Gorgeous. The door to our room was 16' tall, old, big latches instead of a door knob.
