I haven't heard anything about barricades so that must have been before my time but I have definitely heard of a lot of dumb gun stuff since it's a big hunting area so everyone is packing.
Yea, this goes back to the late 70s and early 80s. I'm sure it goes back before the 70s as well. I even heard a story about a rough man who no one could control or even talk about because one way or another he'd get you. So, someone murdered him. The police were so happy that they only did a very cursory investigation and the murderer was never caught.
My mom did say it was like the old west back in those days with the cowboys and natives fighting it out
