Ramirez homers in four-run seventh as Marlins beat Padres

FLORIDA 6, SAN DIEGO 4
San Diego (Ticker) -- Hanley Ramirez used a home run trot toensure his sore hamstring would not be tested.

Ramirez blasted his first career pinch-home run and AlfredoAmezaga scored on a wild pitch to lift the Florida Marlins to a6-4 triumph over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

Held out of the starting lineup with a strain in his lefthamstring, Ramirez belted a two-run blast on an 0-2 pitch fromSan Diego starter Greg Maddux (7-5) to tie the game at 4-4 inthe seventh inning.

"It's just when I run hard that I feel it," Ramirez said. "Theytold me before the game, so everything was ready for thatinning. (Maddux) threw me a couple of nasty pitches and got me0-2, so I just tried to put the ball in play. I got lucky, Iguess."

"We'd rather see (Ramirez) play nine innings, but that wasgood," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He came out andwas able to come out and put a good swing on Maddux."

After Ramirez's homer, Amezaga singled and Dan Uggla doubled toend the night for Maddux. Reliever Cla Meredith intentionallywalked Miguel Cabrera, Royce Ring replaced Meredith and fannedMike Jacobs before throwing a wild pitch that scored Amezaga forthe go-ahead run.

Ring then walked Jeremy Hermida with the bases loaded as Floridatacked on another run, completing a four-run inning thatfeatured 10 batters.

"I thought that (Ring) was the way to go, but it just didn'twork out," Padres manager Bud Black said. "It looks as thoughhe maybe tried to overthrow some breaking balls. The onebreaking ball bounced, and it was a tough pitch for Josh (Bard)to catch."

Justin Miller (3-0) got the last batter of the sixth to pick upthe win. Renyel Pinto and Matt Lindstrom each pitched scorelessinnings before closer Kevin Gregg struck out the side in theninth to collect his 16th save in 17 chances.

"You get deep in the game, and give us an opportunity, and thoseguys do a pretty decent job," Gonzalez said.

Marlins starter Scott Olsen allowed four runs on eight hits over5 2/3 innings. He walked five batters and struck out four.

"(Olsen) battled through some stuff," Gonzalez said. "He had acouple of leadoff walks, a couple of two-out walks, but we'remaking progress. He's doing Ok."

Maddux yielded four runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings andrecorded five strikeouts while not walking a batter. The41-year-old righthander lost for just the second time in sevenstarts.

"Going into the seventh, (Maddux) had thrown 71 pitches and hadput up four zeros from the third through the sixth and he was
throwing the ball great," Black said. "I felt like going into
the seventh he was fine. He really threw the one bad pitch toRamirez."

Khalil Greene belted his seventh homer in his last 14 games forSan Diego, which has lost eight of its last 11 games at PetcoPark.
