K I’d like to hear why this guy has not had a shot. One of our best perimeter defenders. provides energy and can give you momentum swinging plays. He should get a shot tomorrow. Something had to have happened. What do you guys think?
Here's the thing, he is our player with the highest win percentage as a starter. People like to talk about how great we got when we got Norm but that's absolute bullshit because we got really shitty when we got him and then rebounded from that at the end of the season to barely make the playoffs without the play-ins. The fact is, when he was getting regular playing time he was hitting more than a third of his threes and was shooting better than 50% overall but then Stotts started to play him very inconsistently and his shooting (jumpers, he is still dunking everything inside) went to hell. The fact is that Stotts doesn't know how to maximize his value on offense by getting off ball player movement and has never valued defense the way we need our head coach to. The good news is that after this season, I don't think teams are going to give him 10+ million per season and so if we get a new coach I think we'll get a redo with the guy and then if he does really well we have early bird rights to him which means we can offer him like up to 17M per season going forward. So I'd love to see him helping our shitty defense right now but I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing someone use him the right way next season.
It is so unbelievably frustrating that we are paying this dude this much money and we're not even trying to use him. And the worst part is that so many of us called out this outcome when we signed him. We knew Terry wouldn't know how to use him. He'd just try to make him another "stand in the corner and shoot threes" guy and not actually try to utilize his talents. Terry couldn't figure out how to use him so he just stopped playing him all together. To me, this was the final nail in the coffin for Stotts, and honestly should have been the final nail in the coffin for Olshey.
Because he’s useless in Stotts system and his defense is overrated. Another free agency whiff by Olshey. It’s just funny that he never seems to make signings with his coach in mind.
DJJ and Norm should have court time together since they are the dudes that look to push the tempo in the open court off missed 3's. He's disruptive to the passing game, but that's about it. He's not a black hole like Melo at least, so that alone should get him 15 mins.
The Stotts system demands that every player Olshey signs must be a top dribbler, able to create his own shot. Olshey hasn't heard. Yep.
