Yeah. We aren't going to find agreement on this. I don't see him having a real post-up game and I don't think he has the mindset to be a punisher on the low block for 30 minutes per game for 82 games. I think he was involved in a high percentage of our plays as a high-post facilitator -- both passer and screener -- even though he lacks even a 15-foot jump shot. I think Nurkic is a good player. I also think Nurkic might be a bit looking for a scapegoat for his own lack of realization of his potential. He's waaaaay too inconsistent and can't seem to figure out who he is. I honestly think Stotts used him pretty well. But he's volatile. Gets mad at a bad call at one end and immediately gets a silly foul at the other and gets taken out of the game. That can't all be on the coach. A guy so frustrated by the perceived misuse of his coach that he hurts his team by doing odd, selfish things on the court isn't a guy any team or any coach other than a great handler of personalities can make reliable. Just look at Russell Westbrook.
Nurk is butt hurt...the team that traded him here just kicked his butt and he lost his matchup with the guy who took his job....he made dumb fouls in quick order and missed bunnies...didn't rebound that well. Regular season Kanter was a double double machine....Nurk really wasn't that impressive this series other than a couple games. He shut down Joker twice....Joker beat him 4 times. For a guy who spent two years waiving a towel he should know he's not our number two option on offense. In the series he was 1 for 5 from the 3pt line....I think Nurk will calm down from his post game frustrations and realize this is not all about him...I love the Bosnian Beast but he only showed up in 1 out of 4 games from my view.
Well use him wrong this year. In the past he was the 2nd or 3rd option on offense so he got his touches to score and his passes so very involved. This year when Powell came in he was reduced to a 4th option on offense so the opportunity to score was gone. Plus he set pick and he roll but usually never seen the ball when a lot times in this series he was wide open. Dame had great series on the offense side but he miss Nurk a lot on the pick n roll. Defense he just don't look quick out there he use to lite on his feet for big as he his he pretty quick. I really fill his broken leg has taken some of that away from him. Does he leave who knows we will find out. But if Stotts is back I think he will ask to be traded. Olshey will wait until August 3 where his contract is fully guaranteed then traded him for who and where who knows.
For me Seeing Nurk develop this year was incredible. He’s always been gifted passer, his defense has drastically improved (while he didn’t stop MVP Jokic he had reasonable success guarding him straight up), biggest improvement I saw this year he’s finally finishing around the rim! While he’s not a great scorer I think he has potential to be 18-20 a game if we give him more touches in the post. Thing he needs to improve on is dumb fouls he’s an emotional player so he’s prone to pick up stupid fouls, that will improve with age. Top 5 players I want to keep 1. Lillard 2. Nurk 3. Powell 4. Roco 5. Collins ( I know dumb but so much upside, I hate to give up on him) I’m all about risk reward
we shoot so many damn 3’s that hard to tell if they need the work or if the coach needed to use them more. I felt like Stotts relied to heavily on the 3. We had the lead in last game I would have given Carmelo some post up opportunities and drive to the basket more wasn’t like they had a shot blocker. I love that we are great 3 point shooting team but in playoff games you need easy baskets when things get tight, sorry rambling
especially nurk, he needs a good coach that can improve his low post game, he has that sweet spin move, but i think additional move or two could make him good low post player and therefore become a player that can score in multiple ways (low post, pnr & 3-pointer which seems like its becoming legit)... to me, nurk has way more potential offensively than just being a role player doing hand offs and setting screens and occasionally getting a play ran for him... when you add his passing and screen setting, how many centers in the league have that skill set, fuck me if theres more than five both nurk & collins have a really good footwork, so theres obvious potential there, but they need two things: a good coach and stay healthy, so far they havent been able to stay healthy and im not sure they had a good coach and whats even worse, terry stotts system is not a good fit for centers, which is why nurk was diminished to a role player and according to me, he had every right to be pissed about it one can hope our next head coach will bring in good assistant coaches to develop our bigs and make sure our centers are important part of the offense, otherwise nurk wont stay with the blazers, either hes gonna ask for a trade or hes going to leave in free agency next summer, that much was clear from his last interview... if used properly and stays healthy, nurk will turn some heads in the nba world next season
make it top 7 and add simons, im intrigued by his upside that being said, all of them except dame can go in the right deal (yes, that includes nurk and it hurts me to say it)
Hopefully Nurk is back and the rumor is there going to guaranteed his contract. Will there be extension who knows. He going get help hopefully they sign Zach and maybe some adjustments on the roster. But first let's see who's the head coach.
Bill Laimbeer was one of the first 3pt shooting big men. But for being a big slow white guy he was tough on D and knew how to flop. I would love to see Nurk and Collins be more like Laimbeer.
I've wanted him on our bench for many, many years....I think he's got a league exec job with the WNBA after coaching his team to a couple championships....he's a great coach and motivator
He won two championships with the Detroit Shock franchise...I think the first one was his 2nd year as a coach...pretty impressive resume...won coach of the year as well...I'd love to have him as a big man coach...he'd be great with guys like Zach and Nurk.
I'll bet Hakeem is tired of the Rockets big man coaching gig by now...he'd sure be a great big man coach.
I'm betting Hakeem is pretty comfortable in Houston. Maybe we could get him to come here for a few years.
