On Dame: I talk to him either every day or every other day and I know what's going on with him. He's going to do what's best for him and his family. He has gone on record saying he wants to be in Portland and wants to continue to figure out ways to win a championship. And I can't speak for him. But he's upset with how the season ended. He's as upset as the rest of the organization is, and the rest of the fan base is. I think that's all I can say.

From the timing standpoint, it's just tough. The season just ended, emotions are high. Everyone is freaking out and trying to improve everything immediately, but it takes some time to evaluate things from the team/players/fans side.

Referenced the Knicks going from 23rd to 3rd (sic) in defense with largely the same roster after hiring Thibs

CJ like Dame is a class act...bright guy..when he's done playing he's going to have a hell of a career with the nba media...listened to his podcast and he's not ruffled by any stretch

CJ taking the Olshity path of “it wasn’t my fault, it was the coaching”

I doubt Thibs himself could get CJ to be a good defensive player. Better, yes. Good, doubtful.

nothing ground breaking. you could tell how disappointed he was with his performance, especially in games 5 and 6. repeatedly preached patience and that he and the org was just as frustrated as the fanbase. Also said he really feels for the coaches (especially assistants he grew really close with) and wondered subtly if any of them would return to PDX under the new staff.

I thought it was interesting when CJ talked about Terry going to Indiana "IF" he still wants to coach.....Terry said in his letter Portland is home....I hadn't considered that he might retire now and enjoy....in 2016 Terry mentioned after the NBA he'd like to coach in France where he played but with the covid experience...Terry might be ready to actually go fishing and stay home for a bit.
I would if I had his money and was his age at this point in life....few midwesterners like Stotts and myself would look forward to moving to the midwest after living in Oregon

9 years of Stotts and 6 years of CJ starting next to Dame seems like PLENTY of patience to me.

CJ says Dame didn't like how the season ended, but if CJ had played even his average game, and Nurk wasn't an idiot, it would have ended differently. I'm sure CJ knows that too.

in other words, the team failed at the Dame/CJ mesh. Is that really a suprise?

the context was the offseason and moves to come. it's only been 5 days since we got eliminated and other teams are still playing. Let the dust settle before making drastic moves is what he was saying.

and yes, the irony is not lost that we fired the coach the day after

can't even make moves right now, except for hiring and firing coaches

but yeah, it's probably a good idea to let the emotions settle some and shoot for some measured due diligence. I mean, the guy in charge of the coming moves just gave a press conference where he seemed way too emotional while abandoning both objectivity and accountability.

That's not what he said at all my friend....he said he needed to play better and probably lost the game stepping out of bounds with 3 seconds left down 3 pts....
