Our family is a beach family. We always go there for vacation and whenever we can. That said, I’m off after tomorrow for a month and was wanting to take them somewhere we have never been. So i was thinking a cabin in the woods preferably by a lake or river. Somewhere VERY quiet and relaxing.
Wondering if people have any recommendations or ideas. Fewer people around the better. Thanks......

Breitenbush use to have cabins near the river for rent. Don't know what the situation is. I think Detroit has cabins near a good fishing reservoir. The Breitenbush river flows in and the North Santiam river flows out.
The best steelhead fishing river in Oregon used to be the Alsea river which empties into the ocean near Newport.
We regularly take the Wilson river highway to Tillamook and I've seen several cabins along that river. They're near a restaurant, small store, gas station so I'm sure they have a rental office inside.
Here's a great resource for fishing in Oregon:

Next to the view of the Columbia gorge at Crown Point, the redwoods are the second most awesome sight I've seen in my 70+ years. I would urge everyone to see those two sites if nothing else.

Great but where's the damn river and do you pay a sales tax when you rent one of those cabins?

"Named after the neighboring Tye River, Tye Haus is located in the private cabin community of Timber Lane Village just outside of Skykomish, WA. Our A-frame cabin sleeps 4 guests and is equipped with everything you'll need except for food and your family/friends."

I just had a brilliant thought, you could be our friends. I don't snore too loud but my wife is another story. Also, I wear a bib when eating 'cause I drop food on the floor. I hope my 500 lb. frame won't break your toilet or bed. We squish slugs under our feet wherever we find them but we wipe most of it off in the grass near the front door. How do we rent your cabin? I hope you take a check 'cause our credit is in the toilet.

My buddies did Airstream Glamping out in the Redwood Forrest in NoCal, said it was pretty dope. I'm sure they have more of these camps around

I’d be looking to see if any of the Steiner cabins upon Mt. Hood are available for rent. Very cool oldhistoric places. Nice way to get a feel for log cabinliving. It’s worth looking checking out.

I would guess it's too late in the game to try to find something now. Find a cardboard box (the one in your garage should work fine) and find a park you like and bingo bango bongo, you've found a vacation home.

You can rent a house boat on Lake Billy Chinook and then find a quiet arm to anchor. A little late, but during non fire season you can rent the fire look out towers
