    Signed a 5 year 205 million deal.

I know he an elite rim protector but is he worth that investment for the next 4 years?

Im not sure he is, he better lead the Jazz to the promise land even without their starting pg.

he's a 3-time DPOY. He's not going to be paid less than a max deal. And just like the Blazers did with Dame, Utah rewarded him for service

But is he worth it? Would you have given him that contact? Not sure I would, and if I did, and he leaves Mitchell on and Island against the Clips?
Look what he did last night.

it's a big contract but he's an elite talent. All-NBA for sure. I don't think Utah had much choice. He's the best player they've had since the Stockton era. Building around a C seems awkward in this modern NBA, but when you have one of the very best players in the league, and you're a small market team, you just about have to roll the dice and build around that player

I did appreciate watching the Clippers use the Dame defense against Mitchell last night.

He's such a good defender, he shut down the entire league last year.

Its fine for the next couple seasons but those last two years it will be a bad contract. If they didn't give it to him he possibly walks like Gordon Hayward so I'm not sure they had a good choice.

Also as a new owner you don't want to appear to be cheap or it could hurt player recruitment for decades.

agree, its that there are many ? contracts out there and a few for even all stars.
Question? if you your starting a team new team within cap who do you take, Rudy, Westbrick, Wall, Love or CJ knowing what they make per year now?

if I had to take any of them it would be Gobert. At least I'd start with a player that can impact games dramatically. I sure wouldn't pay 33/M year for an undersized, no-defense SG with a selfish streak, average efficiency, and high usage

You can get a decent 5 that blocks shots and protects the rim for a lot less than 41 million a year. He can prove me wrong this series if he gets them to the promise land. He didnt show up at all last night in 32 minutes.

you'd have a better chance of making that argument stick if you weren't trying to back door CJ into being a better deal

I was talking with a buddy from SLC before the series. They seem to think the Jazz are better without Conley. They like more minutes for Clarkson and prefer having Mitchell running the offense.

I would love to have Gobert on the Blazers, but I watched Jokic destroy Gobert earlier this year. You get Rudy away from the basket on defense and he is very average. I still think the Jazz will win this in 7 games (HC advantage) but the Clippers are 2-0 after going to a small ball starting lineup. Again it might be a coincidence and could be all about the home-court advantage, but very few centers nowadays are worth the max IMO. They need to be more than just a rim protector. (i.e Jokic and Embiid)

No, he isn’t worth it, not even close in my opinion. That’s like giving Ben Wallace a max contract. (Who was a 4x DPOY and didn’t get a max contract.)

The only “traditional big” that should sniff a max contract would be Embiid, if he didn’t have health issues. Jokic is not a traditional big, in my opinion.

If I were the Jazz GM I would’ve traded Gobert (if I got decent offers) rather than pay him that amount.

Simply put, he just can’t impact the game enough to justify that much cap space.

It’s also why I wouldn’t pay Simmons an absurd amount. If you can’t shoot, that’s a real big problem. And gobert can’t do shit on offense and a small ball lineup can render him almost ineffective.

reminds me of when the suns put Nash on Batum and he couldn’t take advantage of it.

    Out of those options, Westbrook.
He did play in the NBA finals at least.

everyone is talking about his contract here, but the thread is clearly about his aggressiveness and his “contact”…?
