Apparently Doncic doesn’t like running set plays (according to Mavs fans.)

Carlisle is not a perfect candidate.

    There are no perfect candidates.

I knew I didn't like that kid. If I were Rick I would have busted out my championship ring and told him to talk shit when he won one.

lol he’s just European (I’m one myself.) Watch any of the euro games going on right now, you’ll see guys showing up teammates and coaches all the time. Its just a cultural thing. There’s no malice behind it, but it’s one of my pet peeves. I hate it, and I could definitely see how someone not used to being around it would be like “what’s this fuckin kids problem?”

Carlisle would be a safe pick that I hope we do not make. After failing to get over the hump in Detroit and Indiana, he won once with Dallas in an off year. Would not be opposed to him being an assistant with us though.

I know never say never but no chance the blazers go after Carlisle, who essentially runs the same system as Stotts did.

Again I think that the covid era of the NBA may have put some older coaches out of the grind by their own requests...some may not want to coach again....they see a guy Kendrick Perkins getting paid to talk about basketball and think....I could sleep in my own bed every night and get out of the pressure cooker of being a head coach and I can do a better job than Kendrick Perkins

Well there’s that. Plus the NBA these days is less about coaching and more about managing ego’s.

Which might make Portland a more attractive destination. Not much ego with Lillard. You know he won’t ever throw you under the bus.

I don't think people should get in a twist because there is competition for coaches or because the Blazers haven't hired a new coach yet. No team should rush this kind of a decision. Portland isn't the best situation for a new coach, but it also isn't the worst either....fuck espn

What i am about to say is NOT in any way to slight Backy H. BUT if they were to hire her i think that sends a signal they give it one more year then BLOW IT ALL up and start over. I said it before i like the idea of her IF the Blazers were to blow it all up but not as much if they are going to really try and get this team with Dame to the Finals and hopefully a ring.

Tim McMahon on the Lowe Post said Carlisle is "abrasive" when it comes to players. Did not have a good relationship with Luka, and treated some other players like crap. Seems like a pretty stark contrast from Terry.

Is he though? I know he won a ring, but man hasn’t gotten out of the first round in a decade and his squads only ranked in the top 10 defensively once since then. I’d rather have D’Antoni, if we’re talking about retreads, personally.

Just FYI, he's not a retread, by the definition someone made up in this thread - he has NOT "bounced around".

But, I agree, I like MDA better.

On Blazersedge, Dave had a podcaster that covers the Pacers and she had done a coaching profile previously when the Pacers where looking for a coach last year. She was very complimentary of D'Antoni and how inovative he was in Houston offensively. Obviously he would need to have a defensive minded assistant, but with the limited window the Blazers are dealing with, I'm growing on the idea of him as a coach versus bringing on someone who has never been a HC and will have a learning curve.

Then again, there are going to be a LOT of openings and places that will likely be more attractive than Portland.
