the Olympic Trials in Eugene started with a bang as Oregon native Ryan Crouser shattered the world record that had stood for 31 years https://www.oregonlive.com/trackand...t-to-open-olympic-track-and-field-trials.html
You got me interested. Crouser (28yrs 6mos) is 4yrs 7mos older than Randy Barnes (23yrs 11mos) was. Crouser stands 6-7, 320. Barnes was 6-5, 291. But the biggest difference...Crouser grew up in Portland, college Texas. Barnes Charleston, W. Virginia, college Texas A&M.
"He's not Boring any more." Weakly structured pun aside, I'm pretty sure he hasn't been boring at any time during the past Olympic cycle. He pretty much owns the top-10 lists indoor and out.
in case anybody isn't aware, Crouser comes from a great Oregon track & field family: Brian, Dean, Sam, & Haley all went to the UofO, although Haley transferred to Texas her junior season Ryan really wanted to go to UofO but the Ducks did not have an engineering school and OSU did not have a track team. So he went to Texas the UofO has asked the State Higher Education Board several times over decades to be allowed to form an engineering school, but the Board always refuses. There was a lot of animosity between the Board and the UofO, much of it generated when the Board stripped away OHSU from the UofO in 1974. The UofO almost went independent 2 or 3 times since, but essentially, they have achieved independence now while still being a state institution. The Board was forced to conced on several key issues. To bad it came too late to keep OHSU a UofO school, the UofO founded OHSU after all, and having that school of medicine would make the UofO a premier research insitution
Gotta be a one sentence book, as in, “Find a rich sugar daddy and buy your way to relevance”. Just sayin’………..
If you think that the Reser’s put up the bulk of the money for the stadium upgrades you would be wrong. They did one helluva lot of fund raising and twisting the arms of their rich friends. They did not just write a check for the whole thing…..or put conditions on it. They just got it done through hard work and contacts (including Phil Knight). I know this for hard, cold fact. The Resers put a lot of money where their mouths were, but Phil Knight was (and still is) on a whole ‘nother level.
