* Scott Skiles' reputation for playing young players ought to be somewhat different than Larry Brown's. * I think the Hawks, Bucks and maybe the Bobcats could make an above MLE offer, but they don't strike me as obvious candidates to do so. * I'd rather give Darko an above MLE contract for a shorter-term (like 3 years, to coincide with the end of Wallace's contract) than give him the MLE for 5 years. That'd be important for a couple reasons. 1) It's protection in case we find, just like everyone else has, that he's not worth it. If he's not worth it, better to not screw up our cap space in the long-run. 2) Even if he's not worth it, on a short-term deal like that a young seven footer becomes perfect filler in a trade. In effect, he'd be just like PJ Brown, but young. This would have to be accomplished through a sign and trade of some sort, but I think it could be accomplished. The Magic had interest in Chris Duhon when he was a FA, and perhaps they'd have interest in giving PJ one more year to be a "veteran leader" to Dwight Howard? Without relying on a sign and trade of one of our own free agents (Brown, Sweetney, Noc, Allen) we could still do a Duhon + Khyrapa for Darko sign and trade deal that gets Darko 3yrs and $20.6M, which is a bit above the MLE. We could add Griffin or a resigned Allen and get him up to something like $24-26M over 3 years. That seems like a very reasonable sort of deal for the Magic as well. Duhon would be an excellent fit for them, and Khyrapa is a young guy who has only 1 year on his deal and might be a better fit for a different coach. Allen, if we sent him their way, would be worthwhile depth. I think that's a winner of a deal.
No because the Nets should .
Seriously though, Darko would be a good fit in Chicago but Orlando would be looking for frontcourt help. You guys have a lot of promising guys there so I think the price might be too steep for Chicago

I can't imagine a better fit for the Bulls for the MLE.
If they re-sign Nocioni, they have a front court of:
Deng, Wallace, Darko, Noah, Thomas, and Nocioni (and Thabo, too)
If they keep Duhon, their backcourt is:
Hinrich, Gordon, Duhon, Thabo, Curry
I'd say that's deep at every position. No outright star, but maybe they can win by wearing other teams down or by beating other teams' second units handily.
The interesting question is whether the Bulls would start Darko at C and move Wallace to PF - a spot where Wallace probably belongs.
Another interesting question is whether the Bulls are even willing to spend the MLE and re-sign Nocioni.

Bulls do this and they're still missing a big scoring SG. Thabo showed some range last season, but very infrequently and his form is ugly. It's one thing to have an ugly looking shot like Marion and score with it and quite another to not score with it (as thabo does). 4 of the 5 guards would be 6'3 or under. I do not think that Adrian Griffin is the kind of player I'm suggesting.
The roster as I posted above would have the bulk of its scoring potential in Deng, Gordon, Hinrich, and Nocioni. It remains to be seen if Curry is a big help - even if he is, another guy on the roster who has a real offensive game is the obvious need.

QUOTE (cpawfan)

The Bulls are so desperate that they drafted Aaron Gray, of course they should go after Darko
Yep.
I'll never get over how small Gray showed up against Hibbert in the big east title game.
