    Uribe, Dye carry White Sox past Tigers

    <h3>CHI WHITE SOX 7, DETROIT 4</h3>DETROIT (Ticker) -- Jermaine Dye homers and Juan Uribe belted agrand slam as the Chicago White Sox posted to a 7-4 triumph overthe slumping Detroit Tigers in the opener of a weekend serieson Friday.


    Dye opened the scoring in the second with a solo shot - his 22nd- over the left field fence off Tigers rookie Andrew Miller.It was the 2005 World Series MVP's sixth homer six times in hislast nine games. He hit two in Thursday's win against the NewYork Yankees.


    In the fourth, Chicago created some distance as Paul Konerko andDye both singled and Scott Podsednik was hit by a pitch to loadthe bases for Uribe, who delivered his third career grand slamagainst Miller (5-4) to make it 5-0.


    It was the 28-year-old Uribe's first grand slam since takingreliever Joel Pineiro deep at home against the Seattle Marinerson September 24, 2006. The shortstop now has 11 home runs thisseason.


    Rookie Danny Richar walked and later scored on Alex Gonzalez'sgroundout that capped an impressive five-run frame by the WhiteSox, who also got a solo homer from Josh Fields in the ninth.

    Chicago starter Mark Buehrle (9-6) gave up three runs and sevenhits in eight innings to bounce back from his last outing vs.Detroit. On July 23, the lefthander was tagged for season highsin runs (seven) and hits (14) in a 9-6 loss at U.S CellularField.


    Buehrle has pitched six innings in 21 consecutive starts.

    Miller surrendered six runs and seven hits with five strikeoutsin four frames. The 22-year-old southpaw left in the fifth witha mild left hamstring strain and is listed as day-to-day.

    Miller's injury is just the latest to Detroit's pitching staff,as Kenny Rogers (elbow), Fernando Rodney (shoulder) and JoelZumaya (finger) all remain on the disabled list.


    All-Star Magglio Ordonez had a two-run double and Mike Hessmanadded an RBI single for the Tigers, who have dropped 11 of theirlast 15 games.

    <h3>CHI WHITE SOX 7, DETROIT 4</h3>DETROIT (Ticker) -- Jermaine Dye homered and Juan Uribe belteda grand slam as the Chicago White Sox posted to a 7-4 triumphover the slumping Detroit Tigers in the opener of a weekendseries on Friday.


    Dye opened the scoring in the second with a solo shot - his 22nd- over the left field fence off Tigers rookie Andrew Miller. Itwas the 2005 World Series MVP's sixth homer in his last ninegames. He hit two in Thursday's win against the New YorkYankees.


    In the fourth, Chicago created some distance as Paul Konerko andDye both singled and Scott Podsednik was hit by a pitch to loadthe bases for Uribe, who delivered his third career grand slamagainst Miller (5-4) to make it 5-0.


    "I just glad that I was able to carry things over from myperformance in New York," Dye said.


    Dye continues to be impressive since the All-Star Break, going27-for-84 (.321) with 10 homers, eight doubles and 18 RBI.

    It was the 28-year-old Uribe's first grand slam since takingreliever Joel Pineiro deep at home against the Seattle Marinerson September 24, 2006. The shortstop now has 11 home runs thisseason.


    "I'm swinging the bat good," Uribe said. "I was very happy tohelp my team and do what my team needed done."


    Rookie Danny Richar walked and later scored on Alex Gonzalez'sgroundout that capped an impressive five-run frame by the WhiteSox, who also got a solo homer from Josh Fields in the ninth.

    Chicago starter Mark Buehrle (9-6) gave up three runs and sevenhits in eight innings to bounce back from his last outing vs.Detroit. On July 23, the lefthander was tagged for season highsin runs (seven) and hits (14) in a 9-6 loss at U.S CellularField.


    "I felt a lot better today than I have in a while," Buehrlesaid. "I made a lot more pitches that I did the last game.Just overall body and arm wise, everything felt good, I actuallywanted to go back out for the ninth."


    Buehrle has pitched six innings in 21 consecutive starts.

    Miller surrendered six runs and seven hits with five strikeoutsin four frames. The 22-year-old southpaw left in the fifth witha mild left hamstring strain and is listed as day-to-day.

    "I hurt it on the last pitch to Konerko in the fourth," Millersaid. " I thought it was a cramp but it wouldn't go away. Thedoctors said it was very mild and I should miss the shortesttime possible."


    Miller's injury is just the latest to Detroit's pitching staff,as Kenny Rogers (elbow), Fernando Rodney (shoulder) and JoelZumaya (finger) all remain on the disabled list.




    All-Star Magglio Ordonez had a two-run double and Mike Hessmanadded an RBI single for the Tigers, who have dropped 11 of theirlast 15 games.


    "We are in a funk right now," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said."You have to be nasty to win this game, right now we are a'nice' team that is getting its butt beat."
