Hey it’s the Mel Gibson apologist chiming in! And with such a thoughtful response!

I’m not saying Billups is guilty. And I used the wrong word. Should have said “accused” or something. I’m very sorry. What I’m saying is hiring him without addressing the incident is hypocritical and this rabid defense of him is both telling and embarrassingly reactionary.

We live in a society dominated by outrage addicts. On the left and on the right. Social media is the virus keeping this plague alive.

I will be utterly shocked if Billups sticks around for the crucifixion.

Time to welcome the Trail Blazers new head coach: Let's give a big round of applause to Mike D'Antoni!!

Ah yes, defending someone who wasn't convicted of a damn thing is embarrassing. I'm so embarrassed.

I don't for one second think we hired Chauncey without vetting him or addressing the issue that came up first time his name was mentioned....Neil already brought him to the Clippers once....I think this guy has been vetted for over two decades of job searching....makes zero sense ...there are serial rapists and violent rapists in the world but lumping Chauncey in with them is wrong from what I've read.....I read she gave him a blowjob and he took here to Walker's house where the other stuff happened..so number one....if Chauncey is telling the truth she went home with him and performed oral sex on him....that's not rape. Weird to me how people act like it needs to be tried by twitter

I swear rabid fans are going to be the death of this franchise in Portland...turning everybody into a whack a mole session. All the good guys are going to "part ways" if the culture takes a fucking nosedive now. If Dame leaves and Jody sells the team and moves it I'm going to be pissed...I'm not going to blame Chauncey, I'm going to blame the rabid fans. Try to cheer...celebrate a new era of Blazer hoops and support our team. Dame is not happy at all with the way people are reacting when he should be excited about his new coach and next season

I'm kind of baffled by people who think this way. Everyone has baggage of some kind, but not everyone has "rape accusation and settlement" level of baggage.

Sure, if Billups is telling the truth. That's a weird assertion to make, since that's obvious. A lot of people who actually did commit crimes would be not guilty if you took their word for it. The entire question is whether he's telling the truth.

I don't think it takes "rabid" (with the implication that they're out of control) fans to question this hire and wonder about a crime that was committed (unless you believe she inflicted the wounds on herself) and Billups' proximity to it. Nobody is saying he's definitely a rapist.

The United States penal system has never been about rehabilitation. Americans are all about that punishment. That's why we have the highest incarceration rate in the world.

it quite simply isn't our place to convict him or accuse him of perjury...and I believe people are innocent until proven guilty...we're not talking about alot of people who commit crimes...we're talking about an NBA personality who is not convicted of a crime...I tend to believe people until I have a reason not to....Chauncey doesn't strike me as a dishonest man and I gave enough of a shit about the story to read up on it....people who actually dealt with the case didn't see reason to not believe him either or arrest him...I accept that reality. There are weird people in the world..there are predators, rapists, sadists and masochists as well as gold diggers...we are not qualified to retry this case and it's past the statute of limitations as well..legally

I mean, maybe Jody is playing some 4D chess here? Cant convince the Vulcans to fire Neil so she is giving him enough rope to hang himself with the backlash of this hire so she can fire him and hire Becky?

Not only do we lock more people up, for longer times, and provide no meaningful rehabiliation, but we want people to pick themselves up by the boot straps after they're released and turn it around... all while making sure they can't succeed too much or there will be a columnist slandering their employer.

I've never understood how that best serves anyone in the community.

So I basically just ended a discussion about Billups hire with my cousin, and ended it by asking this simple question.

“I get that you are against the hire because of his past, but tell me one thing…….What did he do?”

To me that’s the best question. The answer has to be “I don’t really know?”

You can’t condemn someone because maybe, or I think

Seems like your stance has shifted somewhat since the beginning of this 10 page thread.

I'm reminded of the classic film: "Twelve Angry Tweeters".
