That was NBA coaching legend Jim Moran.

So I’m a bit confused. I promise I’m trying to keep up, but just can’t seem to.

    What is Dame upset about?

There’s no way Laimbeer would have even coached in the WNBA had he not been rich already. The coaches there make peanuts.

For all we know he may agreed to so to bring publicity to the WNBA. Same with Michael Ccoper.

The NBA subsidizes the WNBA as a way to get young women interested in basketball. The league wouldn’t exist without the funding of the NBA and all the college stars would be playing solely in Europe or Asia where women’s basketball makes a profit. Even some stars in the WNBA still go overseas in the winter to make more money. Not smearing the WNBA, I watch it sometimes, but that’s reality.

I like women’s basketball a lot but it needs all the press it can get and Cooper and Laimbeer are recognizable names that got publicity.

My point is that he won a Summer League championship. I like him too, it wasn’t meant as a slam toward him but it seems a bit of a reach using that as a qualification to hire someone as an NBA head coach.

Kaleb Canales also coached Summer League just a few years after being an intern and then video coordinator.

I remember when he made the Final 4 candidates after MacMillan was fired and the crazy thing is he has more NBA head coaching experience than Billups and Hammon combined.

Is anybody interviewing him for head coaching jobs? Last I heard he was an assistant to the Pacers. How cool would it be if he came back to Portland as an assistant if Fizdale takes a lead assistant job? He must be looking for a job considering Bjorken already got fired after one season. Fizdale loved him in NYC.

On aside note, the average WNBA player makes $70,000 a year and coaches $71,000.

Looking it up, I found this gem, which I assumed was satire but apparently is not and is in fact from a women’s basketball blog.

The surprise to me is that astronauts make such a little salary.

    https://queenballers.club/basketball/wnba-salary

A spot in the WNBA is one of the hardest jobs in the world to get. For perspective, there are more professional astronauts in the world (560) than WNBA players (144)! And seasoned astronauts earn an annual salary upwards of $144,566 by the way. Yet, these elite female athletes are barely compensated relative to the value they’re delivering, with the support of very little marketing.

I don’t know bro, you kind of lost me at comparing the Dame situation with Aldridge leaving as a free agent.

So you wanted Aldridge traded with 4 years left on his contract so he wouldn’t leave as a free agent when that contract ended? So confusing!

Can we get back to talking about our new head coach?

June 27, 2021) – The Portland Trail Blazers have named Chauncey Billups as the team’s head coach, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey. Billups becomes the 15th head coach to lead the Trail Blazers.

“Chauncey is a proven leader with an elite basketball IQ that has won everywhere he has been,” said Olshey. “He is prepared for the challenge of developing the Championship habits and strategic approach we need to achieve the expectations and goals for our franchise.”

The Trail Blazers conducted a thorough and equitable search and Billups is the right choice to lead the organization to the playoffs and beyond.

Billups joins the Trail Blazers after spending the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers. As a part of head coach Tyronn Lue’s staff, Billups helped coach the Clippers to a regular season record of 47-25 (.653) and a playoff run that currently has the Clippers in the Western Conference Finals. Billups is a proven leader, a mentor with the ability to grow and develop players and has a knowledge of the game that is unparalleled.

"I'm very excited and humbled to be the next coach of the Trail Blazers," said Billups. "Portland is a special place and a unique franchise. As a player I always loved playing here because the passion and knowledge of the fans brought out the very best in me as a competitor. Now I'm looking forward to being on the other side of that energy and engaging with the Portland community on a whole other level.”

"I want to thank Jody Allen, Bert Kolde and Neil Olshey for their trust and for giving me this incredible opportunity,” continued Billups. “And, most importantly, I want to say to the fans that I know what this team means to you, and I promise to pour every ounce into continuing to make you proud of what the Trail Blazers stand for."

Billups, 44, played 17 seasons in the NBA for Boston, Toronto, Denver, Minnesota, Detroit, New York and the Clippers. In 2004 he was named the NBA Finals MVP after leading Detroit to an NBA Championship. A five-time All-Star, Billups was named All-NBA Second Team in 2006 and All-NBA Third Team in 2007 and 2009. He also received NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2005 and 2006. In addition to his playing accolades, Billups was awarded the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 2008, the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 2009, and the inaugural Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award in 2013. Billups’ No. 1 jersey was retired by the Pistons in 2016. For his career, Billups averaged 15.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 1,043 games.

“Chauncey is a proven and consistent winner with NBA championship experience as an All-NBA player,” said Jody Allen, Portland Trail Blazers. “He has demonstrated throughout his career, first as a player, and currently as an Assistant Coach a unique ability to lead. We are very happy to welcome him to Portland."

Billups has demonstrated both his commitment to mentorship on and off the court though his work with at-risk youth and his dedication to helping prevent homelessness.

After retiring as a player following the 2013-14 season, Billups worked as a studio analyst and game analyst for ESPN. During the 2019-20 season, Billups served as the game analyst for Los Angeles Clippers broadcasts on FOX Sports Prime Ticket.

A Denver native, Billups attended the University of Colorado (1995-97) where he was a consensus second-team All-American in his second season. He and his wife Piper have three daughters.

I know this, but how is it at all comparable to Dame just beginning his 4-year SuperMax contract? I don’t get it. Lillard hasn’t demanded a trade as far as I know, has he?

“People like me” what is that all about?” I was pissed Olshey didn’t trade Aldridge at the deadline that year and posted it a lot on BE.

It still isn’t at all comparable to this delusion of Dame wanting a trade now. He can sit his ass out for a year of his prime if he wants to pull that shit, but he won’t. He signed the contract and the Blazers have all the leverage. I’d rather tank a season then trade him for pennies on the dollar, as would any competent GM. Plus it would make him such a massive hypocrite he’d be a joke, but again, your fantastic scenario isn’t going to happen.
