I think that 'parking passes' probably isn't correct. Logically, they'll be charged with not reporting something that is a taxable benefit, but we'll see tomorrow...

Barfo, stay on topic. This is a thread about Harvey Weinstein and parking passes.

By the way, at a downtown Manhattan glittery skyscraper, I can imagine a rich guy's ideal parking spot costing $50 grand/year. Might be $100 with valet. Divide that by 300 days/year and it's very possible.

That's right, the NY city lead prosecutors don't know what they're doing. They should listen to you.

They're being charged with felonies and that tells me they're in trouble up to their necks.

How do you know this has anything to do with Weiselberg's indictment? Do you have a good buddy in the Manhattan's DA office?

I don't think you know what use immunity is at all. Use immunity means that you can't be charged for the testimony you provide (i.e your testimony can't be used against you). However, it is the lowest kind of immunity. It is usually given to witnesses to prevent them from being able to decline to talk due to the 5th amendment. It often is used to force witnesses to talk (they still have to testify truthfully to avoid perjury). They can refuse to testify and be held in contempt.

Just curious. Was there a said "value" of that car use that was inserted (and somehow documented) as a part of your salary...and, therefore, taxed in that manner?

The indictment is still sealed. We don't know what is there. Yet someone can say it's bullshit and Attorney General should be disbarred.

I know what it is. In reality, it’s used to coerce testimony against a primary target by leveraging a smaller target into giving information.

There was no basis for this “investigation” other than to try and find crimes. The NY AG said while campaigning she was going to investigate all things Trump, and she has done so.

That’s an abuse of power by any prosecutor but sadly all too common in this toxic era of Soviet-style lawfare. People don’t like us attorneys, but prosecutors in this country along with partisan judges have led us to this point and that’s who should be blamed for all of it. As a rule of thumb, always assume a prosecutor will do anything to get a conviction once charges are brought, even if the case is a joke or politically motivated.

I’m still dazzled by your deep take on this indictment. I learned a lot.

From one lawyer to another, your explanation of use immunity was not right at all. I see you may have done some research since then. I’m not convinced you know what you are talking about.

Just as a defense lawyer will do anything he can to get an acquittal, no matter how strong the evidence is against his client.

Isn't that just doing his/her/your job?

Sounds like (suprise surprise) the Trump Org wasn't very smart about their tax evasion. Set the CFO's salary, and then deducted the various perks from it, and paid him the difference (and reported only the latter). Makes it very clear that they understood that the perks were in fact compensation.

I don’t really know anything about tax law. But, that’s why we have a court system to figure shit out.
