Would still love to have a defensive guru on staff. Rogers, while a defensive oriented coach, isn’t Darvin Ham. He’s more of a big man coach, and a good one at that
Yes, I agree... I suspect if we started all those guys for the entire season last year we would've been a top 15 defense. Our offensive numbers would've dipped a little, but it would have been a net positive. Problem is we didn't have Powell all year and Nurk/CJ were hurt for a big chunk of the season.
It shouldn't piss anyone off. Nor should it make anyone feel like we took a major step forward in becoming a contender. Guys in uniform will make us the contender, not a guy in a suit sitting a couple seats down from the head coach. It's very Medicore, Man.
So you know Darvin Ham is a better coach than Rogers. Where did you get that information, you know players. Just wondering. But i kinda think Billups has a better idea on who should be on his staff, and why.
He spends a lot of time in street clothes, but I do not think this constitutes as coaching experience.
Because if John Wooden came back to life people would be ooohhhhhh Jesus this guy sucks He hasn’t coached nba guys what is Neil doing! People have made up their minds and damn near fucking everything going forward is whaaaaawaaaa.
Darvin Ham is well known around the league as one of the best defensive minds. Rogers will be a very good coach. He is a player development coach who specializes on big men. It’s a good hire. HOWEVER….he has only been the main defensive guy for a year and was fired. All I’m saying is hopefully we bring in someone who is known as a good defensive guy
Right. He is a player development coach who specializes in working with big men. He is a good coach I feel like we are saying the same thing
This is a great hire...Roy Rogers was a Draymond Green type player before small ball bigs were a thing...made the most out of his skill set. I think he's going to be a big asset to the staff....Chauncey knows what he's doing so far with these two hires
How many defense guys you want our head coach is supposed to be defense and Rogers supposed to be defense minded plus he is big man coach something that this group been crying about for over year.
A bit off the subject but I am wondering how much say Billups will have over personnel. Coaches can coach but need the right players.
People thought Gurg was super important back in the day. I do think talent is talent. But those guys sitting a row behind the bench no how to untap talent that hasn’t been realized. I think it’s very important especially for a rookie coach.
I've been on record that I think head coaching is overrated and assistant coaching is underrated, so I'm not saying assistant coaches can't add value. Having said that, I also can't think of a 1st round playoff team with a vet roster that turned into a contender because of an assistant coach. I'm open to examples if anyone has one though.
There is a book about the "Power of the assistant Coach". Every successful head coach will tell you they would not be where they are without their assistants. Seems like every successful head coach picks up powerful assistants. Basketball is a team game and in my opinion the team does include the coaches and their philosophies. Assistant coaches play a role just like any role player on the team. A team might not become a contender with the addition of a good assistant but i would counter with you will not be a contender without good assistant coaches.
