Ben Simmons is a freak athlete with everything you could want on defense and a great passer, screener and slasher on offense. We would be so lucky to get this guy. He'll probably be better than Giannis in a couple of years. So if we decide to move Dame, it should be for a package that includes Simmons. If Neil does the right thing and tries to build a long term contender around Dame he throws CJ and every pick possible at the Sixers and makes it work. That would make Nurk expendable, so we could shop him to the highest bidder. We could re-sign Norm. We could get a guy like Portis with the taxpayer MLE. We could contend next season.

That's the kind of game changer Simmons is. To think about the fit and making a three team deal that doesn't bring back an absolute freak, if we get a shot at a talent like Simmons, is foolish.

    From Philly:

    https://www.phillyvoice.com/nba-tra...mons-all-star-return-draft-picks-daryl-morey/

Signaling a willingness, if not the intent, to trade Simmons is something that puts everybody on the clock. The language of Charania's reporting reads like a purposeful leak, almost a challenge from the Sixers to the rest of the league to get their best offers in while the opportunity is still there. And when combined with the knowledge that Simmons' representation previously met with Philadelphia's front office to discuss the future of the partnership together, the writing is on the wall here. This is accelerating toward a deal in one form or another.

Internally, the new Sixers' brass has had no reservations or misunderstandings about who the best and most important player on the team was or is. Dating back to last offseason, pleasing Embiid was an organizational priority, a fact reflected in how their two younger stars reacted to the various wheelings and dealings of the summer. The big fella, who is far less active on social media than he was as a young player, repeatedly took to Twitter to blast out his excitement as the Sixers brought in Rivers and a decorated staff of assistant coaches in the offseason, as Simmons mostly remained silent aside from the odd retweet here or there about his partnership with esports outfit Faze Clan. Rivers also came in and immediately signaled the intent to play through Embiid first, second, and third, and he no longer giving Simmons de facto control of the second unit as Brett Brown did before him, force-feeding Embiid/Simmons lineups as much as possible to see exactly how far they could take the partnership (and, in fairness, because they helped Philly win a lot of games this year).

In previous seasons, Embiid routinely (and not especially artfully) made note of having to adjust how he plays offense to accommodate Simmons, explaining the three-point shots that angered traditionalists as a necessary part of the game. Sideswipes at Simmons were at a minimum this season, and while Embiid declined to offer thoughts on changes to be made this offseason, his post Game 7 comments (which admittedly more nuanced than many have suggested) revealed frustration that bubbled back to the surface after a buddy-buddy year with Simmons.

All of this is to say that the ending to this movie, broadly speaking, seems pretty obvious.

The only way I want Simmons on this team is if Dame is still here. Otherwise they can go fuck themselves. Simmons on this team sucks otherwise.

Why does Philly want to trade Simmons?
Why would you consider trading a repetitive all star and defensive player of the year?
We wouldn't consider trading Dame unless he asked to be. Maybe Simmons wants a change of scenery?

I don't see Hoopshype Canada as a reliable source, but it is an interesting scenario. Is it built around your headache (Simmons) for my headache (Siakam)? Is it built around Fred Van Vleet and OG? Hmmm...

There's no world where Simmons sucks. He had a bad series and got in his head but you're basically saying that if we don't have Dame you don't want Giannis.

It's interesting how no sources, whether this, Stein or any other, have Portland interested in Simmons. Obviously that would not leak out of Portland's FO, but if the sources are coming out of Philly's FO (which Hoopshype CA says it is), then presumably you would see Portland being mentioned.

Or maybe Philly thinks McCollum is a non-starter, and don't want him under any circumstances. I'd peg that as more likely.

I've never been impressed with Simmons and it was that way well before he was exposed.

Most "sources" are crap. Still worth discussing though.

He was not exposed. He got in his own head. His free throw numbers tanked so it wasn't something a defense was doing to him. The fact is he can defend any player in the league, he has elite passing ability, he rebounds on both ends, and usually he is one of the most dynamic slashers in the game. He's 24, there is no reason for us not to want him. If Dame was leaving he would likely be the best return possible. If Dame is staying we should also do whatever we need to in order to pair the two up.

"Exposed" may be too harsh of word, but I think it is clear that given Simmons fit on that 20-21 Sixers roster, it's now painfully obvious how best to defend that team when Simmons and Embiid share the floor together. It might be more fitting to say that this version of the Sixers was exposed.

Kings are reportedly offering Bagley, Hield and 3 firsts. Bagley and Hield are whatever, but Sacramento firsts definitely have more value than ours. I guess it depends on if Philly can find an actual player for Hield, Bagley and maybe one of those firsts.

Sorry I misread. I think it was saying what Sacramento would have to add if they weren’t willing to trade Fox or Halliburton.

    He was exposed.

He is only good on this team if we trade cj.

These are facts. Thanks for trying.
