I agree that her resume does not look like an NBA assistant coach candidate... ESPECIALLY for a Rookie NBA Head Coach with minimal experience. From the outside, this 100% looks like a PR move. I thought the plan was to surround Billups with experienced ex-NBA head coaches. That's not what this is...
Back of the bench assistants aren’t usually people with much experience. As for your PR comment- predictable and just laughable at this point.
No one saw us hiring a female assistant... oh wait, everyone in here said that would be a good PR move and if it's a competent hire a good move all around. Yeah, now all the team needs is a blockbuster deal and the entire narrative will be changed back to wins and losses.
Weren’t you the one on a crusade about hiring a woman? Now they do and it’s a PR move? Talk about a fucking hypocrite.
Looks like Curry was part of the NBAs assistant coach program, so she probably stood out there. Or maybe Olshey just saw that she was a woman and thought hey that would be good press! (That was sarcasm) https://www.nba.com/news/assistant-coaches-program-helps-former-players-become-future-coaches
Yeah, I don't get the complaint that it's a PR move... of course it is but it can also be the right basketball move. You can kill two birds with one stone. As I think you mentioned an end of the bench coach can be just about anyone that brings some kind of expertise or motivation to a team.
this is laughably transparent. hiring someone with 0 experience because she has oregon ties and is a woman. i mean... come on. And not sure why you keep targeting me as saying this stuff, yet again. I hardly remember what I say in person two days ago, much less what I posted. How or why you apparently remember what I posted weeks ago is... disturbing. Also, you're way too angry in here. need to smoke up again or something.
I think if people want to see women succeed in the NBA coaching ranks we need to stop the narrative that they're hired for token or political reasons....Chauncey knows who he wants to hire and our front office had a woman in the top 3 for head coach..there's truly no reason to speculate this woman didn't earn the hire on her own merits and was hired because of her gender...I felt like with Hammon it became more about her gender than skillset and that's not how we should approach inclusion...I'm glad to see Chauncey building a staff and trust his ability to attract talent to his team. She has been coaching men in Maine...it's not a new situation for her other than the talent level
Looks like the U of Maine really has a prominent basketball program. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/maine/ Over the last 4 years, they have a < 0.25 winning percentage (even in-conference games). With no discernible progress or improvement.
Let’s see how blazers fans will get mad about this. I’m so fucking sick of the negativity around everything this team, and specifically Olshey, does. If you knew nothing about the NBA you would think we were the most incompetent team in the league reading the takes some of these “fans” come up with. Just shut up already.
Before anyone screams about offense or defense and job duties, she is a player development coach at Maine
