Thought we could consolidate all this into one thread for the day instead of being scattered in a few different ones.

Starting off the day with:

Please don't delete. This is a good thread to have for today. A central place to look at where people can post what they're reading and hearing about today's action.

Interesting... I was a bit concerned that future second round picks were going to be required with cash to grab a pick this evening. While $2 million may seem like a lot to some, I read at pretty reasonable (especially considering how much a vet min spot costs with luxury tax penalty additions).

We still have our full roughly $5.62 million for the 2020-21 year available tonight, yes? I'd be surprised if we don't buy into this draft at least once this evening.

i thought the spending was capped at 3.5 mil per year. I don't think it carries over if we don't spend it in a year.

Predict what trade we make today.

I predict buying into the 40s and trading Jones + 1st or Simons for Ross.

I think a Jones-Ross swap makes a ton of sense for both parties. I'd be hesitant to toss a future first into the deal though. Jones has one year less on his contract, is significantly younger, is cheaper, and has higher potential (as limited as it now may be). If the market for Ross grows to the point where the Blazers would need to toss in a future 1st or Simons without anything else of value returning, I think I'd pass and look elsewhere.

That said, I understand that you are simply predicting what will happen rather than expressing what you hope to happen.

I would be pretty pissed if THAT is the trade we made, but it's what I expect from Neil.

Olshey wouldn’t even consider putting Simons in a package for Gordon, no way he’s gonna trade him for someone like Terrence Ross.

I’d be curious what a 1st/Simons (plus Jones for money reasons) package could land Olshey. Simons increased his value this past season but still has a limited role in Portland.

Why do we want/need Ross?

We have enough offensive minded SGs. Need a big wing/forward who can rebound.

I'm not the OP or Neil in this scenario, but I think the thought would be that this is a "first domino" trade. If CJ is traded down the road, Melo isn't retained, and you target a defensive-minded 4-5 in free agency, you'd certainly want a bit more of an offensive punch off of the bench. For instance, assuming Norm is back and CJ is traded for a 3/4 upgrade:

Dame/Simons
Norm
3/4 acquisition/Little
RoCo
Nurk/TPMLE target

I think Ross would make more sense than DJJ in this scenario. Now I would NEVER throw in a first round pick or Simons to get the deal done though.

As someone who doesn't generally watch the draft, I'm glad he does.

Honestly.... I really don't understand the whole idea of "spoilers" for the draft. It's not a movie. It would be like getting angry that news broke over a Blazers trade because we wanted to wait until the team announced it at a press conference. I just don't get it. Who a team is going to pick is news. I like to get news asap. Maybe I'm weird.

what you don’t sit around for three hours to listen to stephen A’s (or whoever they have on there) wonderful analysis and the fashion show?

i think it ruins it for the players more than anybody else. this is their big moment and they learn it via twitter or text from agents.

who knows? maybe some prefer it that way.

one of the moderators should stop eating donuts and cruising around Pornhub long enough to pin this thread to the top of the page

and...is the Westminster Kennel Show Sly's version of Pornhub?

I like the stories about the new guys... the in depth analysis of players by guys like Jonathan Givony... but most of all I watch for anything approximating this

One thing I'm looking for today:

Do we trade a lottery protected 1st rounder? If so, it means we have no intention of making a godfather offer because trading a lottery protected first makes it much harder to trade future firsts.

Is Neil going to do anything tonight to help our team? I feel like we need a blockbuster trade to happen in the worst way and tonight would be a day to do it

why tonight? Portland doesn’t have a pick to trade in this years draft. If olshey makes a “blockbuster” trade it’ll probably come next week.

If something is to happen going to be something like this since they cannot trade another 1st til like around when FA starts and Woj says something like this ---

Portland Trades CJ and Future 1st for (insert name here ) but it cannot be completed til (insert Date ) -- this is what will happen most likely if it's a BIG deal

I don't think there is reason to give up hope if Neil doesn't make a big move tonight. However tonight is the night that all of the GMs are talking to each other, whereas next week they are all talking to individual players. It's why we've seen big deals happen around the draft, before free agency in the past. For me logically if there is a third team involved that has picks in this draft, tonight would be a time to capitalize on that. Also we don't want to get outbid tonight because we were waiting for next week.
