I have Powell sign a huge three year deal a week ago or so.

    Dallas gets CJ for Porz
Sign Powell to 27m py 3 year
    Leaf stays
    Melo Kanter gone
    Sign one other bench vet

I would be shocked if Melo was re-signed, probably even angry.

I listened to him interview Cuban yesterday and he didn't sound like anything had changed...Cuban mentioned how they both lost long time coaches this offseason...

agree, we have overvalued him. I look at him as the same tier as Gordon from Houston.

ERIC Gordon? If that's his value we are not getting anything for him.

nothing surprises me but paying Norm we need cheap bench contracts and Melo is value for the dollar in my view..he also played with Chauncey and they're close..

yep, basically a volume shooter that isn't getting any younger. CJ will transition to a six man or off the bench guy eventually like Gordon too.

Gordon is being paid a lot less than CJ though. If teams view these two players on the same tier it's obvious who they would choose.

Yep. Took me too long to realize it and accept it because I really like CJ the person and how he carries himself. But he’s a 6th man and who is crafty at scoring and if his shot ain’t falling he’s a detriment on the court because he brings nothing else and is a liability defensively.

We waited about 4 years too late to start considering trades for him. To think at some point that back court combo could take us to the next level is just a piss poor job by Olshey. There was probably a point in time where we could’ve landed a star type talent for him. That day has long passed.

If I trade CJ I want DeRozan and Mills in a deal with the Spurs...whatever you package with CJ to do that I like...If I keep CJ he's going to be a 6 man like Lindsay Hunter or Jason Terry

I’d like CJ for DeRozan too. But why would the Spurs do it? DeRozan is better, younger, way better defensively etc…

Edit: I guess CJ is younger

Derozen would compliment Dame's game imo.

Until you get to the playoffs, and the ball is in Dame's hands. And DeRozen is sitting in the corner with no one guarding him.

    Oh without a doubt!

I just don’t think the Spurs would ever entertain an offer if the main components are CJ for DeRozan

I’d love to have DeRozan playing for us.

DeRozan is super close with Dame as well...has been for years...I think for Dame he moves the needle and he's gettable for CJ and change....I really want Mills as a 6 man

I like the thought of Derozan and he's never played with a shooter like Dame before. I think we'd open shit up for him quite a bit, plus he's a better playmaker than CJ.

One thing others have repeated: if we do a sign n trade for Derozan w/SA it hard caps us. Is that true? What are the implications? Does timing affect that?

I think Dame/Norm/Roco/Derozan/Nurkic is a nasty starting line up, we'd want to add a lot of defenders/shooters off the bench though.

I think CJ Elleby is going to make a leap this season and hopefully we have a young bench that can run second units out of the gym....

next season's hard cap will be in the 141-142M range

and here is approximately Portland's current situation:

    Damian Lillard $39,344,900
    CJ McCollum $30,864,198
    Robert Covington $12,975,471
    Jusuf Nurkic $12,000,000
    Derrick Jones $9,720,900
    Anfernee Simons $3,938,818
    Andrew Nicholson (W) $2,844,429
    Nassir Little $2,316,240
    CJ Elleby $1,517,981

    that's about 117M for 8 players

say Powell re-signs for 20M (low?). The Blazers are then 4-5M below the hard-cap line with only 9 players. If somehow, the Blazers could trade CJ for a S&T Derozan for 20M/year. Then Portland is about 14-15M below the hard cap with 10 players. Brown signs for the minimum and the Blazers use their tax-MLE on somebody like Batum. And they are still 7-8M below the hard-cap with 12 players. So, that's doable

problem is a straight CJ for DeRozan swap would either require another Spurs player or DeRozan to be signed for 25M....CBA rules

I might have all that wrong though
