Honestly, I hope they re-sign Kanter for ~5 million to use as a salary filler in the season. Who gives a shit if you're going deep into the tax anyways. Plus as a 3rd stringer, he's awesome. Won't happen, but still...
I mean you have to be wary of the hard cap when making deals. For example a CJ for Simmons deal wouldn't work because you would go over the apron, since we would be taking on $6 million in that deal. We'd only be able to make trades that are exactly salary matching or taking in less salary.
I'm with you one hundred percent but let's hope that CJ is completely on the table, then we have all of our draft picks, then we have DJJ both his potential value as a player to GMs who think we've just misused him and his expiring contract, then we have Ant and Nas who are both still very promising young players. There are assets. To think that Neil will use them to make his first blockbuster trade as our GM after he hasn't come close to a blockbuster anything in nine years... that's an entirely different issue and a paradox.
If Drummond took the vet min, I’d be pretty sure Zeller is also a vet min. The market for centers is no bueno.
was curious so I went to BB Insiders for the Blazer numbers: Damian Lillard $39,344,900 CJ McCollum $30,864,198 Robert Covington $12,975,471 Jusuf Nurkic $12,000,000 Norman Powell 16M (est) Derrick Jones $9,720,900 Anfernee Simons $3,938,818 Andrew Nicholson (W) $2,844,429 Nassir Little $2,316,240 CJ Elleby $1,517,981 Cody Zeller 5M (est) Ben McLemore 1.7M (est) that's about 138.2M for 11 players. Probably no difference between signing Brown and accruing a roster charge of about 900K. So then about 139M for 12 players with the apron being around 143M. Blazers will need 14 players. Another vet minimum would bump Portland up to about 2M below the apron. Couldn't really do a trade for a S&T for more than the Jones contract and still have margin for some in-season maneuvering obviously, there could be some extra margin there in the Zeller contract and Powell's 1st season
lol...it's the 'fuck-it-I-give-up' mode when we've gone from talking about Ben Simmons or Pascal Siakam to talking about 36 year old Millsap eventually, Olshey will kill all hope....prince of darkness
I hope Neil understands it would take more than CJ to get an upgrade. But the more I hear, the more I doubt his competence.
They may be going after him, but it don't mean they will get him. How do you know the Blazers aren't talking to GM's around the league right this minute. Man! i almost wish the Blazers would hire a spin doctor to put bogus trade runs out there to appease you & others. Like Blazers making a run at Ingram, Or Blazers hot on Simmons heels. How 'bout Blazers looking to trade for Bam.
Pretty sure that signing a vet’s min backup PF doesn’t negate the ability to do a trade for a starting PF if the opportunity arises.
