It'd be funny if the Spurs just signed him so they could insist that he not play in the US game. (That would also explain Patty leaving the Spurs...)
No doubt that is correct. I don’t think they will go for a larger cap for hick towns either. Having major market teams go deep into the playoffs is a moneymaking proposition. That’s why everyone around the league is so excited now that Dame is “coming to his senses” and making noises about moving to a contender (major market team). I guess we should just face the fact that Portland will always play the role of the Washington Generals.
Nothing is going to change. I thought we were just doing an exercise in “what if’s”. I think the thing that’s more irritating than the ability to attract stars is the fact that the cap and luxury tax mean less than nothing to these teams. As long as the CBA allows a veteran’s minimum exception, no matter what major market teams pay for superstars, they will be able to fill out the roster with high quality coattail riders just as the Lakers are now.
I want Smart and Simmons, how do we make that work? Dame/Smart Norm/McLemore/CJ2 RoCo/Nas/Snell Simmons/MLE Nurk/Zeller Im assuming CJ/DJJ/Simons/Picks will be needed to accomplish my wish list.
I get what you are saying, but it isn't as if Zeller is a game-changer on defense. Meanwhile, where do we go to replace Kanter's scoring and rebounding?
To think of the cash that moron threw at Nards, Turner, Crabbe, and Moe. The team has not recovered from his mess of a few years back.
Yeah but that’s not really the point Bones. They made a massive upgrade in talent. That’s a playoff team in the East. You're comparing apples to apples and that's not really the problem. The point is that Chicago has gone out and improved their team around their star. We haven't done that. Our star is not happy just being first round fodder anymore. We need to make upgrades to put us in contention. Chicago now has a lot of talent, but they don't have a top 10 talent on that team. I like LaVine a lot, but he's not top 10.
I'm somewhat sad. I thought we would be able to use Kanter in a S&T maybe. Also wow. Kemba gave up a lot of money here.
how many "viable backup PG guys" has Olshey signed since Steve Blake? (hint: it's less than one) in fact, I'll take that notion a step further: if Olshey intended to trade CJ for Simmons, he would have signed a backup PG already
he doesn't defend PG's. He's a PF, or a C. Blazers would need some ball-handling in the back-court when dame sits
Simmons defends PGs. He's spent plenty of time defending Dame when we've played Philly. He defends 1-4 pretty seamlessly.
I think you're getting too focused in on positions. Simmons would handle the ball while Dame was out, but you run him with guards (who would defend the opposing point guard.) Ant (or McLemore if Ant is gone) Little (or Snell if Little is gone) DJJ Simmons Zeller Simmons would be the point guard there....
Why isn't anyone talking about how New York seems to operating under the assumption that they aren't in play for Dame this year? That pleases me greatly. Now if Morey would just do the same. Unless Olshey and Morey have already talked already and the Knicks know they can't beat Philly's offer...
Also, can we use our freaking TPMLE already? I swear to god if we don't use it this off-season I'm going to be really questioning Jody's commitment to the team.
Let's say you do this trade: Dame/Curry Norm/McLeMore RoCo/DJJ/Snell Simmons/?? Nurk/Zeller Second unit would be Simmons Curry DJJ Roco? Zeller Dame comes back in: Dame Norm DJJ ?? Nurk We need another big. I guess I could see Millsap or someone.
I have no clue why the gauge you're using for JA's commitment to winning is this year's TPMLE rather than Olshey still being the GM
