Either one would be super but Siakam makes more since to me as we need a scoring four that can also defend. I just think Siakam is expendable more now. Morey doesn't want to be the guy that trades Simmons away for non allstar player plus he has Maxie of which they are high on. Bet it Siakam, they have that position covered and need to replace the guard they just traded.
NYC sports radio guy said talks are heating up again with Ben Simmons. The teams? Toronto and Golden State.
Hell no. You take Siakam for solid value before you ever cave into given up every pick for a guy who can't shoot outside of 3 feet... It's not that complicated. The dude is allergic to any shot outside of a layup or dunk. You will NEVER contend with your #3 guy being a "perimeter" player who can't make shit outside of 3 feet. You will never contend with your #2 not being able to play off your #1. The dude has a shitty attitude and doesn't work on his game. The dude chokes in big moments in the playoffs. ONE shot in six 4th quarters against the Hawks. That's one shot in 44 minutes. And people think this gut is the #2 on a championship team that they'd give up CJ and every pick for him instead of CJ and a pick or two for Siakam?
While I still think Simmons is a tremendous player, I have to admit I am getting talked into the idea that Siakam is both a better fit and will be a better value in terms of acquisition cost. The catch is, I feel like neither trade is an actual possibility.
I'd think both trades are possibilities. I also don't think Olshey would come close to paying the price to complete either deal
Kings are interested in Siakam and have made an offer (unknown players). An opening offer could be Heild, Bagley, and a FRP. Toronto wouldn't want that and would probably ask for Haliburton.
I secretly hope the blazers are waiting for siakim to be off the table so the 76ers have a reality check for what they want for Simmons.
who do you think is in bigger need of a reality check: * Morey on Simmons value over the last 2 months or * Olshey on CJ's value over the last 6 years seems like everybody is assuming the holdup is Morey's value of Simmons. I think it's just as likely, if not more, due to Olshey's view of CJ
Its obvious Morey high balled the player as even other org's have balked at the ridiculous asking price. I agree too that Neil may cover CJ and be reluctant to let him go but I think he would for the right power forward.
sure...this is some olshey-induced pessimism on my part but I believe Olshey would rather trade Dame than CJ. And Seattle would back that
I can think they both need a reality check. But one guy basically burned his bridge in his city, a city known for having little patience or tolerant fans...and choked on a NATIONAL stage. The other is just short and shitty at defense.
Me too. In my mind the odds are about 80% that CJ gets traded, along with other assets, and about 80% the trade is for either Simmons or Siakam. As others have said, Philly is probably a better fit for CJ than Toronto. I think Neil and Morey have been talking about this trade since the season ended. Once the staring contest is over, I hope Olshey goes ahead and overpays (we're Portland). I think that most likely we end up with Simmons. Olshey isn't done. He can't be.
You underrate Simmons. He had a bad few games against Hawks, yes, but that doesn’t define him. Remember when Embiid got hurt and Simmons led the Sixers on a 16 game win streak? It’s why he won rookie of the year over Donovan Mitchell. He’s the best defender in the league too. Embiid missed a playoff game in 2019 and Simmons had 31/9. However, when SIMMONS missed the 2020 playoffs, the Sixers got swept. Simmons is a major impact player. Honestly, Sixers should keep Simmons, surround him with shooters, and trade Embiid. Truth.
I mean I partly agree with your comment (I would not trade Embiid anywhere even if is health can be become problem again and again) that Simmons more often showed his skills/value than his downsides/bad games.
