To be fair: The thread headline is a statement, the quote is an educated guess. Two different things. If Dame says it, that's another story.
I saw the quotes but I actually went and listened to the podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/posted-up-with-chris-haynes/id1446252794?i=1000531022885 Here is a direct quote from Haynes: "Damian Lillard said, the roster as is, he doesn't see how the roster team that can really contend for a title, and that's what he wants. Management thinks otherwise." You have got to be fucking kidding me. This is clearly something he's heard from Dame. This is the clearest indication of our management's incompetence and plan to run it back with the same group.
Contend for a title? dafuq? win a round--- maybe. But title? in what universe? If this is true, then I believe for all intents and purposes that we are done making any moves of significance this summer. I'm hoping this is Haynes making mountains out of molehills yet again.
Just fucking trade the guy for a boatload, at this point I’d get more excited about possibly winning the lottery than watching the Blazers win 45 games and lose 2-4 in the first round, which feels like a typical Blazers season for the past decade.
Whoever we're playing better be starting three guards because if we have to go against a team with a normal sized 3 we're toast. We won't win a round with this roster unless Chauncey is some miracle worker and gets Dame and CJ to turn into all nba defenders because Norm is going to be undersized in any match up. I guess we'll see. I don't know why Dame is going to stick around and give this a chance if Neil is unwilling to make changes that make us competitive.
If we get Oubre or Milsap that will probably get the bench back to where it was last season. The starting lineup is the exact same. Maybe Ant and Nas pop and we have more firepower off the bench than it looks like right now. That and Chauncey's coaching could conceivably get us past the first round if the opposing team's SF isn't rising up over our guys and torching us for twenty more points than his average. What does that result in? Dame demanding a trade. I actually think when we hear he's going to give this thing a shot, if we drop games to all of the good teams and can only beat the bad teams like last year, I doubt Dame gives it more than until the end of the year before he asks out. I just don't get it. If Neil is at odds with Dame about what the team should be and knows Dame is teetering on the edge of asking out, why not just trade the dude? Maybe Neil, who didn't start a career in basketball until his thirties just doesn't know what the fuck he's looking at and his evaluation really is that this is a contending roster. Poor Chauncey... just being set up to get told that it was his fault not the roster's.
I'm hoping Neil falls and slips into a coma. That or Nas suddenly becomes Kawhi. Barring one of these two things, this team is hopeless.
