Since there’s no improvement to our team. When do you think Dame ask for a trade? Middle of the season or next season?
Are you even a Blazers fan? Dame will want to stay here just because we are Portland. And he knows Olshey is doing everything he can to bring a title to our town. He even got over not having valet parking everywhere.
Agree that Dame wants to (and has to) stay but Dirk also mentioned that he may would have left the Mavs if he would have see no chance to win a ring. So, I am not always to sure if thinks can develop different from what we think/expect. but before we trade Dame anywhere I would give away everything else to improve this team and try to make a run with Dame as the leader (and to be honest I also do not see an other worthy option)
If Dame thinks Olshey is doing everything he can (which isn't a very logical conclusion) he might give it the whole season. A few reporters have said that Dame wants to give Chauncey a chance and if that doesn't go well he'll ask out by the deadline. That's what I think makes sense... unless Neil makes a big move and then he might see what we can do in the playoffs. He does want to win a championship and his preference is to win it here but he's not sacrificing winning for this city that he loves.
We could do it for picks if we made Dame wait until next off season but we can't do it for picks now. Dame could make any roster in this league a playoff team and then we're just left with our picks and their non lottery picks. If Dame demands a trade we need to get a package of young studs and draft assets. Nothing less than players who are likely to be good if not great and picks that may be high for a guy getting MVP votes and by that metric is the sixth best player in the league. Then we could cash in CJ for picks and contracts that match and are good or expiring. We could cash in RoCo and Nurk too. Ideally it would be great to trade Dame for Ingram, Hayes and picks. Then CJ, RoCo and the NOLA picks can go to Philly for Simmons. We could just give Nurk to the highest bidder. The fact is Ant, Nas, Ingram, Simmons and Hayes, DJJ plus picks and whatever we get for Nurk is a great young core to build around. We probably wouldn't miss the playoffs so it wouldn't net us lottery picks but we would have two guys in Simmons and Ingram who can both be all nba players and the rest are really good role players.
I was looking at the 76ers reddit and they all seem to think Lillard is going to be traded there any day. I don't get it?
They're either delusionally optimistic and fueled by bullshit media or we're in the dark over here. I'm pretty sure it's the first one but if it happened I wouldn't be completely shocked. Dame said make big changes urgently and Neil has said he can't. That probably isn't enough for him to bail but that's only probably.
Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere (forgive me if so), but I thought it is at least worth discussion. I wanted to cite the Spike Eskin recent claim in his podcast (The Rights ro Ricky Sanchez) that there has been a ton of chatter about a three-team deal being discussed (Philly-GSW-PDX) around Simmons-Dame-etc.: https://www.rightstorickysanchez.com/podcast/080821. This seems to be the first instance in which the claims go beyond the standard "Morey/Philly is interested," to the "there has been movement on this front" vibe. I will also say that I have found Spike Eskin to be a generally credible and levelheaded, especially considering that his day job is in sports radio. For instance, he has been a frequent voice on Zach Lowe’s podcast, and Zach doesn’t tend to go for attention-grabbing, hot-take artists. I have no doubt that he is hearing such things, but he is likely hearing it completely from the Philly side. How reliable are his sources speaking to the Blazers' perspective on this matter is a COMPLETELY different story. The first fifteen minutes or so of the podcast address the Dame-to-Philly "smoke."
I can speculate...and I have ideas, and some are totally ridiculous. I guess I'm qualified to have an NBA blog or podcast
Yep. Certainly not advocating for the deal, but posted here because it was the first instance we've seen of a connected-media member suggesting that discussions have happened. That's all... And addressing Wiz above, I do think Eskin has better credentials and far more connections than the average fan podcast. Does that mean he and his sources are right? Of course not.
The Blazers aren't going to make Phillys and GSWs dreams come true and screw themselves. It's not happening.
I mean, if Dame did ask out, we could do a lot worse than a GSW - Philly threeway. GSW has Wiseman, and two lotto picks from this draft. I like Kuminga. We could also ask for a bunch of picks.
Philly can get all excited, all they want, listening to what's said on the Dirty Sanchez Show. I call Bullshit!
Exactly. IMO, if dealing Dame netted us Thybulle and Maxey from Philly along with Wiseman, Moody, and Kuminga from GSW, that's about as good a haul as we could probably ever hope to expect.
In a 3 way with Phi/GSW I’d demand Kuminga, Moody, Thybulle, Wiseman, Maxey plus expirings to make money work. I mean that’s a hell of a start on a rebuild.
