So we've had a ton of discussions over the years as to where Dame is on the list of all-time Blazer greats. Pretty much everyone agrees #1 or #2 behind Walton. But where does CJ rank? Ranking him on the all-time Blazers list seems too subjective so let's focus on shooting guards. Me: 1. Drexler 2. Roy 3. Petrie 4. Steve Smith 5. Drazen Petrovic ( CJ has done way more for the Blazers but I think Drazen was the better player) 6. CJ 7. Jim Paxon 8. Wesley Matthews 9. Billy Ray Bates 10. Derek Anderson
If we're judging this by who the better player was (as you did with Petro), I'd have Matthews ahead of CJ. CJ obviously has much more career value to Portland, but I'd rather have a prime Matthews over CJ.
1. Clyde 2. Roy 3. Petrie 4. CJ 5. Paxson 6. Matthews 7. Smith 8. Steele 9. Ainge 10. Rider Edit: @PtldPlatypus 's extremely well-reasoned argument against my list has guilted me into reconsidering and reordering things a bit.
Derek Anderson above Bonzi Wells or Danny Ainge?? Drazen was a great player... but not for the Blazers. That's like having Jermaine O'Neal as one of our top PFs.
CJ has probably as good scoring skills as any of 'em. Just in the body of a slow PG. Imagine CJ with Drexler's physical gifts...
Love Ya Dog, but you can't put Drazen ahead of CJ. If you're being truthful, Drazen was a herky jerky, pressing, frustrated player when he was a Blazer. What he became in JOYsey should have nothing to do with the rankings here. My top 3 are: Clyde, CJ, and Brandon. Mine based on achievement, & stats.
Agreed. IMO, for this discussion, you've got to compare what they did as a Trail Blazer, not their entire career.
C'mon now... Why does everyone hate on CJ so much? I loved Petro too but damn... The man only played barely over a season for us... He's a NJ Net...
Look out if that were the case. Clyde had one of the worst outside shots i've ever seen. Form was fugly.
