The narrative from 3 months ago is "get vaccinated, and you won't have to wear the mask". Now its "vaccination required and even though everyone is vaccinated or covid-negative tested, you'll still need to wear the mask".

 

Don't know for sure. The people who have been getting them are doing so against the rules so they are not reporting back. My guess would be similar to the second shot reaction.

 

I attended seminars given by people in public health last year. Vaccine hesitancy was projected to be the primary hindrance to our return to normalcy. It's bearing out now.

Frankly, i'm happily surprised to read of Kate Brown's upcoming outdoor mask mandate.

But this is a controlled environment. What's the solution, rapid testing everyone before the game to minimize the risk even further? Masks, while effective, are still not perfect in preventing transmission.

 

nah, you're twisting this. Everyone isn't vaccinated. Nearly half the country isn't. For the herd to be immune, a large population needs to be vaccinated and they just aren't. And the science is clear about carriers and efficacy.

No vaccine is 100% efficacious, but nearly every metric in every endpoint in massive clinical trials with COVID vaccines, the ones now are a marvel of modern science.

 

It is NOT a controlled environment when unvaccinated kids are present and people are still going about in public unmasked like normal.

It's not testing. In my mind, the solution is to go door to door vaccinating people, or penalizing them for not getting shots. Banning them from games is an example of it. Delta essentially fining their employees for not getting it is another example.

Incentivizing people didn't do jack shit to the vaccination rates, but maybe it's time to get the stick now instead of the carrot.

 

Everyone who attends the game will be vaccinated OR have a 72 hour negative COVID test. I think bearing this in mind and the relative risks, they shouldn't require masks. For one, it will show people who AREN'T vaccinated sitting at home, that people can enjoy life with no masks, normal. cheer the local hometown basketball sqaud.

But with the mask mandates, people at home are gonna be watching people on TV in masks, thinking the vaccines are bullshit because even if EVERYONE has the vaccine or negative COVID-test, they still have to have the mask on.

 

Unvaccinated kids shouldn't be allowed at games if there is a vaccine mandate. Religious or health exceptions shouldn't be made either.

That's whats going to be played out. All the unvaccinated will be at home thinking "even if I got the vaccine, they're still going to make me wear a fucking mask, so what's the use"?

 

Vaccination in Multnomah County is at 76.9% - nearly half in other areas isn't my concern.

 

i can't believe that people would be so simple minded, but what to do. Public health and medical science isn't as black or white as people want it to be. Everything is a probability and has variance.

I got vaccinated to help us get rid of the masks. Also in hopes it will help of course. Then we hit the vaccinated percent requirement.
But now its vaccine and masks required?
Goalposts keep changing.

 

because you have such a complex mind your not getting that some of us got vaccinated to get rid of the masks and now we must wear it again?

let me ask you this.

if everyone is fully vacced snd/or has a negative test result on hand from within the last 72 hours, what do you think the odds of a breakout happening if no one has a mask on?

 

How can anyone definitely tell you an answer to that? If masks help the people next to me even a little bit, even after vaccinations I'm fully on board. Goes back to my point about how to me, wearing a mask is absolutely painless compared to even the smallest likelihood of a COVID infection.

Pulling it down to take a drink or snack is such a minor hindrance.
